World Series Game 1 Preview βΎοΈ
The Astros and Phillies have cruised through the playoffs so far, but only one of them can claim the Commissioner's Trophy. World Series action starts tonight in Houston, and you don't want to miss it πΊ (3 min read)

Philly Or Houston?
Man, it is one heck of a time to be a Philly sports fan. Sure, the Sixers may be off to a tough 1-4 start, but they still have the seventh-best odds to win the NBA Finals this season (+1400). Then there's the Eagles, the NFL's lone unbeaten team at 6-0 and one of the clear-cut favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy (+550)
But best of all, the Phillies are currently in the midst of a magical October run, and they now have a chance to cap off their first playoff appearance since 2011 with a World Series title π
You better believe the city of Philadelphia is going absolutely nuts right now, but if you take a look at the week they have to look forward to, can ya blame them? β¬οΈ

The Fightin' Phils were able to turn their Wild Card berth into an NL pennant by taking down the Cardinals, Braves and Padres, going a blistering 9-2 across the three series with a +22 run differential. But they shouldn't go greasing up the street poles in preparation for a Phillies' parade just yet. First, they'll have to get past the one team even hotter than they are π₯
I love all the βbut the Phillies are hotβ takes
The Astros are literally 7-0 in the postseason and have won 9 in a row.. and the streak started with the Phillies π

That's right, the Astros, winners of an AL-leading 106 games this season, have yet to drop a game in the playoffs after sweeping both the Mariners and Yankees. The pitching has been dominant, the offense has been clutch, and on paper they have every reason to be the favorite π
Houston Astros: -190 (bet $190, win $100)
Philadelphia Phillies: +165 (bet $100, win $165)
Make no mistake though, Philly is undoubtedly embracing the underdog role, and at the very least, they'll have most of the country in their corner π
Apparently the #Phillies are now βAmericaβs Teamβ π€£
According to a Twitter study by BetOnline, 88% of the country is rooting for the Phils to beat the Astros in the World Series
Phillies: 44 states
Astros: 6 states

Trivia question: Who was the last pitcher to be named World Series MVP?

Game One Preview
The 2022 Fall Classic officially gets underway tonight in Houston, and with both teams coming off four days of rest, it'll be the best of the best taking the mound. Check out how the lines are shaping up for Game One at Minute Maid Park π
Phillies vs. Astros Betting Preview (subject to change)
Aaron Nola (PHI) vs. Justin Verlander (HOU)
Spread: Astros -1.5 (+132)
Moneyline: Astros -166, Phillies +140
Over/Under: 6.5 Total Runs
As you might imagine, both these teams boast impressive postseason rotations, and it doesn't get much better than the pitching matchup we have on tap tonight πͺ
Justin Verlander may not have the 2022 AL Cy Young trophy in his possession just yet, but the award is all but his after 18 wins and a minuscule 1.75 ERA this season
The 39-year-old veteran has aged like fine wine, and while he was roughed around in his first playoff start, 11 strikeouts his last time out against the Yanks served as a nice reminder of just how dominant he can be
While Nola is coming off a dud of his own, he was lights out in his first two postseason starts and struck out 235 batters this season, fourth-most in the league
As good as tonight's two hurlers are, both should have their work cut out for them against opposing lineups that are dangerous from top to bottom
The Astros have three starters batting over .300 this postseason, and that doesn't even include one of the league's most feared sluggers, Yordan Alavarez, who has still reached base at a .371 clip, while adding a team-high eight RBIs
For the Phillies, Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber have had their fair share of moonshots this October, but the biggest reason for this team's success has been the otherworldly play of Bryce Harper π₯

The Phillies' postseason leader in every major offensive statistic, it's no wonder why the guy's got murals popping up around town. He and Yordan understandably top the odds board for World Series MVP; will either start their candidacy off with a bang tonight? π£

For My Parlay Gurus
Call it a hunch, but there's just something about this Phillies' run that feels special. Plus, I admittedly can't stand the Astros. I'm going with the Phils to take Game 1 in a matchup that sees both aces go toe-to-toe; check it out π
Phillies ML vs. Astros: +140

Trivia Answer: Of the last 18 World Series MVPs, only three have been pitchers. Stephen Strasburg of the 2019 Nationals was the most recent to accomplish the feat
