The Big 3, NBA Draft Edition

The NBA Draft is here, and Orlando is officially on the clock. With several enticing options to choose from, three to be specific, they can't really go wrong โ€” or can they? ๐Ÿค” (4 min read)

Tonight's parlay is Jabari Smith First Overall and Ousmane Dieng Under 11.5 Picks. More info below on a chance to win $100 ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ€‹Whoโ€™s Going No. 1?

The Warriorsโ€™ championship parade was just days ago, but the always-hectic NBA offseason is already in full swing ๐Ÿ˜. While rumors continue to swirl regarding the future home of several superstars, the leagueโ€™s attention will be in Brooklyn for the 76th NBA Draft tonight ๐Ÿ—ฃ

  • The lottery ping-pong balls favored the Orlando Magic this year, and for the fourth time in franchise history, they are on the clock with the first overall pick

A difficult decision awaits them, however, with three consensus prospects all neck-and-neck at the top of most draft boards. Here are the candidates the Magic are likely considering ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ“ Jabari Smith, F, Auburn (-280 to go first; bet $280, win $100)

  • Since the end of the college basketball season, Smith has looked like the best bet to be taken first overall, and for good reason. 6โ€™10" with a silky smooth jumper and a strong defensive motor, he looks like the complete package already, and thereโ€™s Durant-level upside to dream on

๐Ÿ“ Paolo Banchero, F, Duke (+300; bet $100, win $300)

  • Banchero is often considered the safest of these three prospects, but a recent odds shift suggests Orlando could like the upside enough to take the Duke product first. The versatile big will fit seamlessly on just about any roster in the league

๐Ÿ“ Chet Holmgren, F/C, Gonzaga (+450)

  • As a point guard in a 7-footerโ€™s body, Holmgren has been making NBA scouts drool ever since crossing Steph up in high school, and his lone season at Gonzaga added quite a few more highlights to the reel. But, the long term concerns regarding his frame and lack of strength still remain

Trivia Question: Can you name the other three players the Magic have selected first overall? (answer below)

Other Players To Watch

As the Warriors and Bucks have proved with homegrown rosters, championships are earned through the draft, and that goes beyond just the first few picks. This yearโ€™s draft class has top-tier potential throughout โ€” here's some of the more interesting O/Us I have my eye on ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ“ Jaden Ivey, G, Purdue (O/U 4.5)

  • Considered one of the best guards in the draft, Iveyโ€™s explosive offensive ability should land him in the top five, but is the upside tempting enough for a team in the top three?

๐Ÿ“ Johnny Davis, G, Wisconsin (O/U 9.5)

  • One of my favorite guys in the draft, Davis falling out of the top 10 would be a crime. The reigning Big 10 Player of the Year (over Ivey ๐Ÿ‘€) should be getting buckets in the league for a long time

๐Ÿ“ Ousmane Dieng, F, New Zealand (O/U 11.5)

  • Thereโ€™s nothing quite like the allure and mystery of an international prospect around draft time. 6โ€™10" with a smooth handle, Dieng oozes potential, and with no team wanting to miss out on the next Luka or Jokic, donโ€™t be surprised to see him off the board early

Overtime's Own

Also hoping to hear their names called tonight are two of Overtime Elite's very own, who both showed out this season ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ“ Jean Montero

  • One of the youngest players in this yearโ€™s draft at just 18 years old, Montero also has some of the highest upside of any prospect, and could even garner some first-round attention

  • Originally from the Dominican Republic, he was the first international player to sign with OTE, and the electric guard stuffed the stat sheet with 22.5 points, 6.2 assists, 9.9 rebounds and 4.6 steals per 36 minutes

๐Ÿ“ Dominick Barlow

  • Barlow has been picking up some draft steam since his strong performance at the combine, and he could see himself land somewhere in the second round

  • The rangy 6'9" forward averaged 21.2 points and 8.4 boards per 36 minutes, while shooting over 33% from deep

For My Parlay Gurus

You could make a convincing case for any of the Magic's top three options, but I think the decision will be, and should be, Jabari Smith. I'm also banking on Dieng finding his next team a bit earlier in the night than expected โ€” here's the parlay I'm going with ๐Ÿ‘‡

  • Jabari Smith First Overall: -280

  • Ousmane Dieng Under 11.5 Picks: -135

$100 on this bet would win you $136 โ€” if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win ๐Ÿ˜‰

Trivia Answer: In 1992, the Orlando Magic selected Shaquille O'Neal with the first overall pick. They had the first pick the following year as well, and they selected Chris Webber before trading him to Golden State. Their most recent appearance at the top of the draft board was 2004, when they drafted Dwight Howard
