Weekend Update, NBA Edition
Happy Monday and welcome back to another night of NBA playoff action! This weekend offered a number of standout performances, as multiple teams climbed back from the brink of elimination to even up their series š„
The Mavs and Sixers found themselves in 2-0 holes only a few days ago ā both squads have now found life by defending home court
The Mavs put on a shooting clinic, led by Dorian Finney-Smith, in their Game 4 win, dropping in 20 three-pointers to Phoenix's 9
Philly grinded out another W vs. Miami behind a much-needed hot-shooting night from James Harden
As we'll discuss below, the Celtics and Grizzlies each dropped Game 3, but in dramatically different fashion
But, a loss is a loss, and Boston and Memphis will both be looking to recover from the weekend's struggles š

Calling Jayson Tatum
Game 3 of this series was there for the taking for both teams, and Milwaukee closed it out buoyed by a masterpiece from Giannis Antetokounmpo. The reigning Finals MVP has been nothing short of incredible so far in this year's playoff run, and while many counted them out after Middleton's MCL sprain, they've actually gone 5-1 without him š¦
Jrue Holiday's dominance in this series should not be discounted - players are shooting 30.6% from the field when guarded by him
Giannis and Holiday combined for a historic 60 shot attempts in Game 3
For the Celtics, costly mistakes and questionable calls down the stretch of Game 3 have been the topic of conversation. But, there's no place for excuses in the playoffs, and Jayson Tatum in particular will need to pick it up after scoring 10 pts on 4/19 shooting on Saturday. 35-year-old Wesley Matthews held him to 0/10 shooting, which just can't happen
Tatum's costar Jaylen Brown has averaged 28.5 PPG since his Game 1 dud
Meanwhile, seemingly ageless big man Al Horford put together a masterful Game 3 performance, continuing what's been a resurgent postseason for him
Horford was only a few fractions of a second away from changing the Celtics' fate in the closing seconds š¬
Trivia Question: What years did Al Horford win back-to-back NCAAM titles in, and with which school? (answer below)

Can Memphis Win Without Ja?
The Memphis/GS matchup has easily been the chippiest of the playoffs, starting with Draymond Green's Game 1 ejection and Dillon Brooks' Game 2 clothesline of Gary Payton II. Jordan Poole's knee swipe of Ja Morant has been the talk of the weekend, so expect Game 4 to have some extra juice. While the Warriors are not completely immune to blowing 3-1 leads, it's hard to see Memphis taking the series without this game š
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, it appears that electric PG Ja Morant will likely miss the game with a knee injury
Morant has meant everything (š insane stats) to Memphis this series, but the Grizz have shown all year that they can pick up the slack without him
On the other side, things are looking undeniably good for the Warriors, who cruised in Game 3 behind a historically efficient offensive attack. Their trio of high-scoring guards ran circles around the Memphis defense, unleashing plays that have potentially never been seen before on a basketball court š
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were in peak Splash Brothers form, draining the types of shots that only they can
Jordan Poole continues to look obscenely comfortable in his first postseason; his coming-out party has been the catalyst for Golden State's dominant play
Jonathan Kuminga became the youngest playoff starter ever in Payton II's absence, and showed out with an incredibly efficient performance āļø
