Virginia (+4.5) Is The Only Team To Hold Paolo Banchero To Under 10 Points

The last time these two teams played, Virginia clawed out a win at Cameron Indoor Stadium. They did so while holding Banchero to his lowest point total of the season 🛑 (4 minute read)

No. 7 Duke @ Virginia Preview

Tonight at 7PM EST, the Duke Blue Devils will get a second chance to take down their ACC rivals. Just a couple of weeks ago, the unranked Virginia squad shocked Duke at home 🚨

Duke vs. Virginia Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Duke -4.5

  • Moneyline: Duke -205 (bet $205, win $100), Virginia +168 (bet $100, win $168)

  • O/U: 130

Despite their solid 11-6 record in conference games, UVA has stumbled out to a 17-10 overall record, a ways off from Duke’s 13-3 and 23-4 marks. With a win, Duke will clinch the top seed and a double-bye in the upcoming ACC tourney 🔥

These are two of the premiere college basketball programs, both ranking in the top-six of teams with the most wins in major conference play over the past decade 👇

  • Virginia: 139

  • Villanova: 138

  • Kansas: 137

  • Kentucky: 130

  • Arizona: 128

  • Duke: 128

As it turns out, nobody’s been better than Virginia, despite lacking some of the name recognition of the other aforementioned blue bloods. They are also the most recent NCAAM winner of the bunch (2019), edging out Villanova by one year 🏆

Players To Keep An Eye On

Duke has the clear edge in terms of top-end talent, with projected lottery pick Paulo Banchero headlining the squad. Here are the 19-year-old’s number through 27 games this season 👇

  • 16.9 points per game

  • 8.4 rebounds per game

  • 2.7 assists per game

However, Banchero scored just nine points in his game against the Cavaliers, his worst scoring game of the entire season. UVA’s top dog is the senior transfer from East Carolina, Jayden Gardner. In his first season as a Cavalier, Gardner’s put up solid stats after moving from the AAC to the ACC 👇

  • 15.3 points per game

  • 7.1 rebounds per game

  • 1.6 assists per game

Unlike Banchero, Gardner had a solid game, putting up 17 points and grabbing eight boards in the previous matchup vs. Duke

Trivia question: Only one player in the history of UVA men’s basketball has won the Naismith Award. However, he did so three times, tying UCLA’s Bill Walton for the all-time record. Who is this Hall of Fame hooper? (answer below)

The Big Picture

Between the two teams, Vegas has much more faith in Duke’s season-long aspirations than UVA’s 🤑

  • Duke: -1000

  • Notre Dame: +700

  • North Carolina: +5000

  • Miami FL: +5000

  • Virginia: +40000

As the only team with negative odds, Duke is a virtual lock to close out the conference championship. Ranked 82nd in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Net Rankings, Virginia also has +40000 odds to win a title this season. Duke, however, is right in the mix amongst the top teams 👇

  • Gonzaga: +400

  • Kentucky & Arizona: +800

  • Auburn & Purdue: +1000

  • Duke & Kansas: +1400

  • Baylor: +1500

For My Parlay Gurus

I’m banking on the Blue Devils to come out strong and send a message to the rest of the country. Despite being road favorites, I expect them to cover in a high-scoring game, considering the low O/U. Last matchup totaled 137 points, while tonight’s line is set at 130. Peep my full parlay 👇

  • Duke -4.5 @ Virginia: -114

  • Over 130 total points scored: -106

$100 on this bet would pay out $265, you’re welcome in advance. If it hits, make sure to email [email protected] for $100*. First come, first serve 😉

Trivia answer: Ralph Sampson won the award in 1981, ‘82, and ‘83, before going on to play nine years in the NBA. Though starting off his time in the league with a Rookie of the Year and four-straight All-Star nods (including the 1984-85 ASG MVP), knee injuries undermined what could have been an all-time great career
