Win Or Go Home

Are you ready for a VERY stressful 90 minutes? Despite entering today's game without a win, the US Men's National Soccer team has played well for the most part. A staunch defensive effort helped limit an elite English squad (ranked fifth in the world) to zero goals. Offense has been hard to come by for the Americans, having only put up one goal over two contests — but by that same token, they have only allowed one goal ⛓️

📍 Path To The Round Of 16

At the moment, the US trails both Iran and England in terms of total points in Group B — England leads everyone with 4 (a win and a draw), Iran is a step behind with 3 (a win), and the US currently sits at 2 (two draws) 😬

  • Only a win today against Iran will advance the US, giving them 5 points while ensuring Iran remains at 3

  • Expect a dramatic game, considering the American squad will be forcing the issue to create scoring opportunities. Iran on the other hand advances with a draw, so they'll likely take a more risk-averse approach and crowd the box, forcing the US to attempt to crack open a set defense

It's not completely out of the question that one of these two teams wins Group B, but that requires a Wales upset vs. England. Wouldn't count on it, but peep the group odds just in case you're feeling frisky 👀

  • England: -800

  • Iran: +1000

  • USA: +1500

Game Preview

Knowing that a win is the only result that ensures a trip to the Round of 16, expect the US to come out aggressive. This past Friday, the US managed to create 10 shots, compared to five from England. If these opportunities can begin to fall, the USMNT might look like a totally different animal 🇺🇸

  • All eyes will be on Christian Pulisic, who managed to generate a combined five shots and chances against England. If this shot had snuck in...I can't even imagine 👇

  • Iran's duo of Sardar Azmoun (benched during their loss to England) and Mehdi Taremi could prove to be a thorny striking combination — expect them to challenge the American backline

A win against Iran would be historic for the US, as it would break the 12 year gap since the latter has moved into the later stages of the World Cup

  • Moneyline: USA EVEN, Iran +300, Draw +230

  • Over/Under: 2.5 goals

  • When: 2PM EST on FOX

Trivia Question: When was the last time the US faced off against Iran in the World Cup?

For My Parlay Gurus

I think the US will be able to get it done today and the offense finally breaks right for the boys, so I'm taking them to win. At the same time, this game has all the makings of a dogfight, so I expect the score to remain under 2.5 total goals. Check out my parlay 👇

  • USA ML vs. Iran: EVEN

  • Under 2.5 Total Goals Scored: -172
