Primetime Purdy

When 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a potential season-ending foot injury two weeks ago vs. the Dolphins, San Francisco's status as a true Super Bowl contender fell under heavy doubt. However, backup Brock Purdy has looked more than capable since stepping under center, leading the 49ers to blowout W's against Miami and Tampa Bay. Purdy, who was the 2022 NFL Draft's "Mr. Irrelevant", made some history in the process 👀

The rookie QB will be tested again tonight, with the 49ers facing their NFC West rival Seahawks. Seattle surprised many early in the season and held a short-lived division lead before the Niners started their current six-game winning streak. However, Seahawks' present and future looks bright - they made out like bandits in the Russell Wilson trade, replacement QB Geno Smith has been a revelation and fifth round pick CB Tariq Woolen is elite 💪

Doubted QBs

There's no doubt that Purdy has looked far more impressive than his lowly draft status would suggest, but this 49ers squad's strength has never lied at the QB position. San Francisco is stacked from top to bottom, and has shown the ability to win no matter who mans the offense. Jimmy G was, after all, backing up Trey Lance to start the year, and stepped in to lead the Niners on a hot streak 🔥

• Purdy has an embarrassment of riches to spread the ball to in Kyle Shanahan's offense, highlighted by the all-purpose "wide-backs" Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffrey

• Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle and speedy receiver Brandon Aiyuk round out San Francisco's offensive weapons

• Their defense is even more imposing — led by Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, this unit has been historically dominant 😳

Brock Purdy isn't the only underdog QB suiting up tonight...if you had told anyone other than a diehard Seahawks fan that Geno Smith would end up outplaying his predecessor Russell Wilson this season, they would have called you insane. Yet Smith has been the notably superior QB thus far, leading Seattle to a winning record and boasting the fifth highest completion percentage of all time 👀

• Smith's numbers across the board are shockingly strong for a career journeyman — he's thrown 25 TDs and only 8 INTs

• Much of this is personal improvement, but the presence of top notch receiving threats in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett doesn't hurt

• Seattle's defense has been porous lately, so the Seahawks will likely need some more magic from Smith to pull this one out 🪄
