Champions League Quarterfinal Update

The second leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals is set to continue this afternoon, and we can only hope today’s action brings just as much excitement as yesterday’s matches 🍿

  • Chelsea may have won their match 3-2, but a thrilling 96th-minute goal off the head of Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid a 5-4 aggregate advantage, knocking out last year’s reigning champs

  • Villareal capped off one of the biggest upset bids in Champions League history over heavily-favored Bayern Munich with a 1-1 draw, securing a 2-1 aggregate lead. Peep the late breakaway goal that sent to underdogs to the semis 😎

With half of the semifinal officially field locked in, the other two spots will be up for grabs today. Both matches are set to get underway at 3PM ET 👇

  • Liverpool vs. Benfica (Liverpool leads 3-1 agg.)

  • Atletico Madrid vs. Manchester City (Man City leads 1-0 agg.)

Liverpool vs. Benfica Preview

Liverpool, one of the hottest teams in the world, undoubtedly has their sights set on a semifinal matchup with the streaking Villareal, but first they'll have to take care of business today against Benfica. Take a look at how the lines are shaping up 👇

  • Moneyline: Liverpool -380 (bet $330 to win $100), Benfica +1000 (bet $100 to win $1000), Draw +550

  • Over/Under: 3.5 Total Goals

Liverpool is no stranger to Champions League success, and from the look of this year’s run, the Reds could be on the cusp of their third finals appearance in five years

  • Liverpool won all six of their group stage matches in dominant fashion, finishing with a +10 scoring differential, before taking down Inter Milan in the Round of 16

  • In the first leg of their quarterfinal matchup against Benfica, the Reds jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the 35th minute hit, and added a late insurance goal for good measure in a 3-1 victory ⚽️

Facing a two-goal aggregate deficit heading into today’s match, Benfica is not in an enviable position, especially considering their opponent’s form of late

  • Liverpool has dropped just one match in 2022, and their 2-2 draw in Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Manchester City was the first time they’ve allowed an opponent to net two goals in a game since the first week of January

Benfica looked ready to go in their Primeira Liga match over the weekend with a 3-1 victory, highlighted by a hat trick from striker Darwin Nunez. But they may need another huge effort from their star if they have intentions of making Liverpool nervous today 😬

Trivia question: When they captured a Champions League title in 2019, Liverpool took down a fellow Premier League team in the finals. Which team was it? (answer below)

Atletico vs. Manchester City Preview

With only one goal separating Atletico and Manchester City heading into today’s second leg, this match may have a bit more potential to shake up the field than the other. Take a look at the lines ahead of the clash 👇

  • Moneyline: Man City -135, Atletico +390, Draw +275

  • Over/Under: 2.5 Total Goals

Last year’s runner-up, Man City, currently sits atop the Premier League standings, and they’ve been playing like a team that’s hungry for a shot at redemption 😤

  • City kicked off the Round of 16 with a statement, thrashing Sporting Lisbon to the tune of 5-0 in the series’ first leg

  • Goals proved harder to come by in the first leg of their quarterfinal matchup, but City held Atletico without a shot on a goal in a 1-0 victory

Those low-scoring affairs typically suit Atletico, who have allowed one goal or less in eleven straight matches

  • They impressively held favored Manchester United to just single goal across their two Round of 16 games, advancing on 2-1 aggregate

Unfortunately for Atletico, keeping Man City quiet on offense won’t be enough today — they’ll need to score at least two goals of their own. It remains to be seen if they have enough offensive firepower to do that 🤔

For My Parlay Gurus

Could we see Liverpool and Manchester City battle each other for both Premier League and Champions League titles this year? It looks like a very real possibility, and I’m banking on both advancing today and leaving little doubt in the process. Peep the parlay I'm going with 👇

  • Liverpool/Benfica Under 3.5 Goals: -125

  •  Man City ML: -135

Trivia answer: Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the 2019 Champions League Final, capturing their first title since 2005. The two goals were scored by Mo Salah and Divock Origi, who both still suit up for the team
