The Top Three Scorers In The Nation All Play In The Big Ten

The Big Ten is home to some of the best talent in the country, and that star power should be on full display tonight with No. 13 Ohio State vs. Indiana and Iowa vs. No. 23 Wisconsin 🏀 (4 minute read)

The Mavs retired Dirk’s jersey last night — the ceremony was awesome 🇩🇪. Let’s talk Big Ten hoops 👇

Big Ten Ballers

Conference play is underway in college basketball, and in the Big Ten, that means teams are in for a battle every night. Consistently one of the nation’s deepest and most competitive conferences, this year is no different 💨

  • Four teams from the Big Ten are currently ranked: #3 Purdue, #10 Michigan State, #13 Ohio State, and #23 Wisconsin

  • Three more teams (Illinois, Iowa, & Minnesota) received votes in the most recent poll and are right on the outside looking in

  • The top three scorers in the nation (Keegan Murray, Kofi Cockburn and Johnny Davis) all represent Big Ten schools

But what really separates the Big Ten is its depth; just one team (Nebraska) has a losing record this season. And teams currently at the bottom of conference standings include 10-3 Indiana and a Michigan team that was ranked #6 in the nation to start the year

Simply put, there’s rarely a dull game in Big Ten play…and boy do we have some good ones tonight 🍿

Ohio State vs. Indiana Preview

Since knocking off #1 Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Ohio State has kept the momentum going — they enter tonight’s matchup against Indiana on a five-game win streak. But the Hoosiers are undefeated at home this season, and they’re favored over the streaking Buckeyes. Take a look at how the lines are shaping up 👇

  • Spread: Indiana -2

  • Moneyline: OSU +110 (bet $100, win $110), Indiana -135 (bet $135, win $100)

  • Over/Under: 138

The Buckeyes could be entering this game on a much different note; they had to fend off a pesky Nebraska team in overtime their last time out

  • The play of freshman Malaki Branham is a big reason why they were able to avoid the upset. The guard scored 35 points and nailed six threes en route to being named Big 10 Freshman of the Week

  • OSU star and first-team All-Big Ten honoree E.J. Liddell struggled in the contest, shooting just 2-14 from the field, but he still managed to score in double figures for the 22nd-straight game dating back to last year

Ohio State will likely need a better performance tonight from Liddell if they hope to keep their win streak intact. Indiana is dangerous, and there’s good reason why they’re favored

  • The Hoosiers have a star of their own in Trayce Jackson-Davis. Also a first-team All-Big Ten selection last season, the sophomore forward is averaging 19.3 PPG and 8.2 RPG this season

Expect a back-and-forth battle between each team’s star tonight, and the matchup could come down to which one steals the show 👀

Trivia question: as good as the Big Ten has been in basketball recently, the conference hasn’t had a national title since 2000. Which team won it all that year, and who did they beat? (answer below)

Iowa vs. Wisconsin Preview

Big Ten double feature anyone? Tipping off right after OSU-Indiana is another high-level clash, as Iowa travels to Madison to take on Wisconsin. Both teams are on a bit of a roll heading into the matchup; here’s how the lines are looking 👇

  • Spread: Wisconsin -1.5

  • Moneyline: Iowa +105, Wisconsin -125

  • Over/Under: 147

Wisconsin will be looking for an encore to their most recent performance, an impressive 74-69 victory over #3 Purdue on the road

  • The Badgers were 13-point underdogs in the game, making it their biggest upset win since 1995

  • Guard Johnny Davis absolutely shined in the victory, scoring half of Wisconsin’s points (37) while adding 14 boards

  • Wisco has just one loss with Davis in the lineup this season — at Ohio State. He rightfully deserves to be in the the Player of the Year discussion

On the season, Davis’ 22.3 PPG ranks third in the nation. Who’s at the top of that list? Iowa’s Keegan Murray, with 24.5 PPG

  • The sophomore forward has been especially good of late, averaging 29.8 PPG over his last four, including a pair of 35-point performances

Liddell against Jackson-Davis earlier in the night is about as good as it gets for a head-to-head matchup, but watching Davis and Murray go shot for shot might be even better 🔥

Trivia answer: Led by senior Morris Peterson, the Michigan State Spartans cut down the nets in 2000, beating Florida. It was the first and only title for current head coach Tom Izzo, and future 2x NBA Dunk Contest champion Jason Richardson was a freshman on the team
