MLB’s Top Storylines
We’re coming close to the summer months where the MLB is our only source of daily action. The NBA Finals, Stanley Cup and French Open occupy a lot of today’s sports news, and while we’ll get back to those three this week, let’s take a quick look at some of the MLB’s top storylines, starting with this lovely stat ⚾️
Tonight's win gives the Yankees a 10-9 all-time regular season record against the Dodgers

The Yankees look good after a bad stretch of injuries, but the top story of the season actually comes from another Florida team not named the Heat or the Panthers. Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez is having an insane season, batting a league-best .392 with 80 hits on 204 at bats, and only one HR that came earlier this season during his cycle game 👀
Luis Arreaz with the first cycle in Marlins history. This man legit just doesn’t get out

To put his crazy batting average into perspective, no one has finished a season above .370 since Ichiro Suzuki back in 2004. Arraez has over 100 games to go and will likely cool off, but coming anywhere close to Ichiro’s average would be one of the best hitting seasons in the last few decades 🔥
Ichiro Suzuki had 126 hits in a 63-game span of 2004. Yes, an average of 2 hits per game for over 2 months.
No one else has ever done that in baseball history.

Another storyline from a few weeks back was the hot start of 23-year-old Christopher Morel, who went on an insane stretch for the Cubs in May 👇
Christopher Morel is on a tear for the Cubs. Since his call-up from the I-Cubs (where he already had 11 homeruns), Morel has hit 9 homers in 12 games and has now homered in each of his last five games.

Unfortunately Morel has really cooled off over the last 5+ games, but that’s expected for a young hitter. I mean he was on pace for 95 HRs, which was obviously never going to happen, but I don’t think many saw this cold of a stretch coming 🥶
#Cubs Christopher Morel last 5 games:
1-18
.059/.111/.059
.088 wOBA
-54 wRC+
38.9 K%This was the follow up to arguably the hottest stretch we’ve seen from a player this year
Has amazing tools but wildly inconsistent given the swing and miss issues.

On the HR front, it’s pretty incredible that Aaron Judge (19) is right there with Pete Alonso’s league-leading 21 HRs, considering Judge has played in 11 less games. He’s been absolutely dominant over the last season and a half 💪
Aaron Judge since 2022:
79 HR (1st)
169 RBI (2nd)
.421 OBP (1st)
.684 SLG (1st)
1.106 OPS (1st)
204 wRC+ (1st)
14.2 fWAR (1st)
117 XBH (1st)
15 multi-homer games (1st)— Dillard Barnhart (@BarnHasSpoken2)

Even more impressive? Judge is doing this vs. AL East, the only division in the MLB where every team has a winning record 🙏
Trivia Question: Who had the best batting average in the MLB last season?

For My Parlay Gurus
Shane McClanahan, who has league best eight wins, is on the mound tonight for the Rays, which means they are going in the parlay. Add in the Pirates, who have won five straight, vs. the worst team in baseball and we have ourselves some nice action 👇
