Premier League Update

With just a handful of games remaining on each team’s schedule, the Premier League season is winding down. But, the beauty of soccer is that the final standings actually impact next year's Champions League draw, since the Top-4 of the EPL automatically qualify. At the top of England's best league, it’s been nothing but positive headlines 👇

  • With news breaking that Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland will join Man City this summer, the current EPL leader had a pretty good week. Add in Kevin De Bruyne's four goals yesterday in a 5-1 win and there's not much else to say

  • The victory extended Man City's advantage to three points over second place Liverpool in their quest for a second straight Premier League title

With 19 goals over their last four Premier League matches, City is in prime form, and the title looks to be theirs to lose. Here’s an updated glimpse at the other teams joining them at the top of the table 👇

  • Manchester City: 89 points

  • Liverpool: 86 points

  • Chelsea: 70 points

  • Arsenal: 66 points

  • Tottenham: 62 points

  • Manchester United: 58 points

The two-horse title race between Man City and Liverpool is getting all the attention it deserves, but that’s not the only battle for positioning worth watching over the next couple weeks. More on that soon 👀

Trivia Question: Only seven clubs have ever won the Premier League, with the most recent first-time champion claiming the title in 2016. Which team was it? (answer below)

North London Derby Preview

A Premier League crown may be out of reach for both Tottenham and Arsenal this season, but that doesn’t mean the stakes are low for today’s match between the North London neighbors. Check out how the lines are shaping up 👇

  • Moneyline: Tottenham +115 (bet $100 to win $115), Arsenal +230, Draw +250

  • Over/Under: 2.5 Total Goals

If anticipation wasn’t already high enough for a late season rivalry matchup, it’s also worth noting fans have been waiting a bit longer than expected 👇

  • Today's match was originally scheduled for January, but was postponed due to COVID issues

  • However, the delay has only upped the ante for today's action. Now, just four points separate the two teams in the race for fourth place with precious games left to play 😳

Why would anybody care who comes in fourth? Well, with a spot in next year’s Champions League on the line, it's a pretty big deal

  • Each of the top four teams in the EPL table are guaranteed a spot in the UCL. The team finishing fifth would qualify for the Europa League instead

  • Both Arsenal and Tottenham, the UCL runner-up in 2019, failed to qualify for this year’s tournament. Arsenal hasn’t made an appearance since 2017

  • Each team has three EPL matches left this season

The two squads are undoubtedly eager to return to Champions League play next year, and today’s match will go a long way in determining which one locks up the fourth and final spot 😤

Storylines To Watch

Currently on the outside looking in at a UCL berth, let’s not beat around the bush for Tottenham — today’s match is a must-win 🍿

  • Securing 3 points with a victory won’t be enough to level the two teams, but a slimmer margin will put Tottenham in prime position to capitalize, should Arsenal falter in their last two games

  • The Hotspurs' strong start to the month bodes well for their chances today. Over their last two matches, Tottenham cruised past a tough Leicester City team 3-1, before holding Liverpool to a single goal on their home field in a 1-1 draw this past weekend

  • However, Arsenal is on a heater of their own, bouncing back from a three-match losing streak at the start of April to win each of their last four 📈

With both teams playing well, we should be treated to some great action on the pitch, regardless of the outcome. Like most rivalry matchups, I expect the stars to shine the brightest 🌟

  • Tottenham star striker Harry Kane is no stranger to big Derby moments, as the matchup's all-time leading goal scorer. But, keep an eye on fellow forward Heung-Min Son, who is just two goals off the Golden Boot lead this season

  • Unfortunately for Arsenal, the availability of some of their stars is in question. Talented centre back Ben White, and winger Bukayo Saka, who leads the Gunners in scoring this season, are both dealing with injury concerns

Playing in front of a hostile Tottenham crowd will be tough enough, and it will be an even bigger challenge if Arsenal isn't at full strength today 😬
