This Game Had So Much Potential 😏
The NFL schedule makers surely saw tonight's Rams vs. Packers game as one of the premiere primetime matchups of the season, but a lot of things have gone wrong for both squads. Still, and I know it sounds crazy, a wild-card spot isn't totally out of the question. Can Rodgers get a W? 🏈 (3 min read)

Looked Better In September
While we've had our issues with some of the NFL's primetime scheduling this season, this week's MNF matchup admittedly looked much more intriguing at the start of the season. Both the Rams and Packers were coming off successful seasons, with LA of course winning the Super Bowl. However, tonight's game sees each of the squads out of playoff contention (at the moment)...what happened? 📉
The Rams season was disastrous from the start, kicking off with a 31-10 beatdown at the hands of the Bills on Ring Night
QB Matthew Stafford hasn't looked the same, even before succumbing to a season-ending spinal cord injury in Week 13
Sitting at 4-9, LA is on track to post the worst record ever by a defending Super Bowl champion 😬
In case those of you out there are still trying to hold onto a miracle...This is the ONLY way for the #Rams to make the playoffs:
1.) They must beat GB, DEN, LAC, SEA - Win out at 8-9
2.) WSH or NYG HAVE to lose out
3.) SEA HAVE to lose out
4.) GB, DET, NO & ATL can't win 8— JAKE ELLENBOGEN (@JKBOGEN)

Green Bay has, of course, suffered a similar fall from grace this year, ranking only one game above LA in the NFC standings. While the Packers endured another embarrassing playoff flameout last season, they still snagged the top seed in the conference and QB Aaron Rodgers captured his fourth MVP. Both the legendary quarterback and the rest of his squad have looked flat out bad in 2022 😏
The Packers run defense ranks 32nd in DVOA. Their 0.073 EPA per rush allowed ranks 31st. They are allowing five yards per carry which also ranks in the bottom-5 at 30th.
Rams NEED Akers to take over on Monday night...

Enter Baker
Given their lowly record, plus Stafford and Cooper Kupp being shut down for the remainder of the season, the Rams' playoff hopes are pretty much dead. Into this void of malaise and uncertainty enters Baker Mayfield, whom LA signed on a flyer after the QB was dropped by two teams in six months. Mayfield exceeded all expectations in his debut vs. Las Vegas 👇
Despite only signing with the Rams two days before kickoff, Baker led the Rams to one of the best comebacks and overall football stories ever
Mayfield's game-winning touchdown drive was the stuff of legend: 98 yards with only 1:45 remaining and no timeouts. If he can keep this magic going, the Rams can remain competitive down the stretch and prevent the Lions from getting a Top-5 pick in this draft via the Stafford/Goff trade 👀
Baker cooked up the comeback of his life 🔥

It was clear that Green Bay would need to adapt following the departure of First Team All-Pro receiver Davante Adams in free agency, but Aaron Rodgers has historically been able to excel regardless of his weapons. This has been far from the case in 2022, as Rodgers has spent much of the season struggling to connect with his young, unseasoned receiving core. However, the offense's play in recent weeks should have fans feeling more excited 🧀
After starting the season slow, speedy rookie WR Christian Watson has formed some next-level chemistry with Rodgers. He has eight TDs in the last four weeks!
While this season seems lost for the Packers, we might have a new dynamic duo brewing in Green Bay 🍿

Technically, Green Bay isn't done just yet. A win tonight puts them just one game back of the last NFC wild-card spot. If things don't workout for the Pack, they'll have to make a huge decision on Jordan Love's contract - do they pick up his fifth-year option after this season. Would you make a change?

Trivia Question: A postseason berth is immensely improbable for the Packers — when was the last time Aaron Rodgers and co. missed the playoffs?

For My Parlay Gurus
I like the Packers to take this game, but the big spread reflects a level of confidence that I just can't place on this Green Bay team. I think a rejuvenated Baker Mayfield will continue his late push for a new contract in free agency by keeping the Rams competitive and making this one more interesting than Vegas expects. Take a look 👇
Rams +7 @ Packers: -110
Baker Mayfield OVER 193.5 Passing Yards: -113

Trivia Answer: The last time the Packers missed the playoffs was in 2018, after which Green Bay fired longtime coach Mike McCarthy and the Matt LaFleur era began 🧀
