Premier League Update

It's been just under a month since the Premier League season kicked off, and one look at the current table will show you just how unusual the first few weeks of matches have been 🤔

  • Several of the leagues regular contenders, like Chelsea, Man U, and even Liverpool, have all gotten off to slower than expected starts, with eight points or less thus far

  • On the other hand, Brighton, Leeds, Southampton and Fulham (in their first year back from relegation) all crack the top seven in the standings, despite finishing no higher than ninth last year 🤯

As is often the case this time of year, early season overreactions are already pouring in, but chances are the table will sort itself out over time. There are certainly some emerging trends to keep an eye on though 👇

  • After a late-season collapse knocked Arsenal out of a coveted spot in the league's top four last year, the Gunners have come out of the gates hot this season, winning each of their first five matches to stand alone atop the standings

  • The hot start has Arsenal's stock soaring, and they now have the third-best odds to win the Premier League. But at +1200, they're still longshots compared to the league's resident powerhouse, Manchester City (-275)

  • Despite a draw on their resume, Man City leads the EPL in goal differential by a wide margin at +14. Unsurprisingly, a certain superstar offseason addition has been a huge part of their dominant start 👇

After back-to-back hat tricks, Haaland now has more goals than 15 entire Premier League teams. The striker was +250 to lead the league in scoring at the start of the season, and right now, that looks like an absolute lock 🔒

Game Preview

We've got one Premier League match on tap today, but it's an intriguing one featuring a pair of clubs looking to turn their seasons around. Take a look for how the lines are shaping up for Manchester United's trip to Leicester City 👇

  • Moneyline: Leicester City +230 (bet $100, win $230), Man U +105, Draw +270

  • Over/Under: 2.5 Total Goals

Man U is currently in the midst of a two-game win streak, including a victory over Liverpool, which has helped dissipate the panic from a brutal start to their season 😮‍💨

  • United kicked off the year by dropping each of their first two matches, including an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford

  • Even as the Red Devils have evened up their record, Cristiano Ronaldo has been a non-factor for them this season. Largely coming off the bench, the 37-year-old superstar has yet to record a goal or assist

  • His fit in new manager's Erik ten Hag's scheme remains questionable, but it sounds like the forward will at least be sticking it out through the season 👇

The addition of Ajax winger Antony, the second-most expensive player in club history, will help, but if Man U still has their sights set on contending for a UCL spot this year, flashes of vintage Ronaldo would go a long way 🙌

  • Meanwhile, Leicester City is still looking for their first win of the season. With one measly point so far, they're all alone at the bottom of the standings

  • After capturing the most shocking EPL title ever in the 2015-16 season, the Foxes have yet to return to the league's top four, but they've had five straight top-ten finishes

There's still plenty of time for Leicester City to stop this season from going off the rails, and Man U presents as good of an opportunity as any. Long story short, both clubs could really use this win 🤞
