The Pennant Race Is On

As the MLB approaches the post-season, we are about three weeks away from the Wild Card round β€” there is still a lot of uncertainty regarding certain divisional races, as well as the exact Wild Card order in both the NL and AL πŸ‘‡

  • With only 15 games left for the Braves and 13 for the Mets, the NL East will come down to the wire, as the two teams are only separated by one game. They begin a three-game series on September 30th to potentially determine the tie-breaker

  • While the NL Wild Card is a little more set in stone β€” either the Braves or the Mets will secure the top spot, and the Padres and Phillies are separated by a half-game for the 5th and 6th playoff seeds

  • Toronto and Tampa Bay are jockeying for the top Wild Card spot in the AL β€” Toronto is currently ahead by one game

  • Seattle is also firmly in the hunt, with one less win under their belt than Tampa Bay

NL East Divisional Odds (subject to change)

  • Mets: -230 (bet $230, win $100)

  • Braves: +170 (bet $100, win $170)

There's a chance the Braves are able to pull out another divisional win...since June 1st, Atlanta has gone 67-28 (114 win pace), while New York has gone 58-38 (97 win pace). Both teams have been playing great baseball for a while now 🧒

Trivia Question: Since Spencer Strider became the fastest pitcher to record 200 strikeouts (130 IP) over the weekend, who was the pitcher he took the record from?

Fighting For Seeding

Now that the general landscape has been surveyed, let's take a look at two interesting match-ups tonight πŸ‘‡

πŸ“ Astros vs. Rays

Houston has the AL West on lock, and will most likely emerge as the top seed in the AL come playoff time. The Astros clinched a playoff spot last Friday with a comfortable win against the A's πŸ’ͺ

  • Meanwhile Tampa Bay is still in the hunt to secure home field in a first round playoff series in the Wild Card round β€” as things stand they would be traveling to Toronto

  • Shane McClanahan is pitching for the Rays and has posted a .271 ERA through his first 50 career starts, trailing only Jacob deGrom (2.66) and Tony Gonsolin (2.32), so expect this one to be low-scoring

  • Spread: Rays -1.5

  • Moneyline: Rays -136, Astros +116

  • O/U: 6.5 Total Runs

πŸ“ Padres vs. Cardinals

St. Louis, similar to Houston, holds a comfortable 8.5 game lead in their division, and will most likely end up securing the third seed. San Diego on the other hand is battling with Philadelphia for the honor to play either Atlanta or New York in the Wild Card round πŸ‘€

  • Since the Padres shocked the league with their acquisition of Juan Soto, things haven't necessarily gone according to the plan β€” the young star only has3 HRs and 7 RBIs, with the Padres posting a 18-19 record in that span

  • Spread: Cardinals -1.5

  • Moneyline: Padres -118, Cardinals EVEN

  • O/U: 7.5 Total Runs

For My Parlay Gurus

Tonight, Tampa Bay should be able to pull things out with McClanahan on the mound, and the Cardinals get rely on the vet in Adam Wainwright. It doesn't hurt that Paul Goldschmidt is making a case for one of the best 1st Basemen in the league. Peep my parlay πŸ‘‡

  • Rays moneyline vs. Astros: -136

  • Cardinals moneyline vs. Padres: EVEN
