AL East Race

Mathematically speaking, the AL East is the tightest division race between all five teams, which is absolutely insane 🀯

  • Just two months ago, the Yankees had a 15.5-game lead over the 2nd-place Rays, and were vying for the MLB's single-season wins record

  • Flash forward to today, and the Rays and Blue Jays are less than seven games back from New York in the division

What's even crazier is that these AL East teams play each other a number of times before the season ends, so anything can happen πŸ‘€

Vegas hasn't budged much on the Yankees, considering it would take a stunning collapse for them not to win the division this season. With all these games against the AL East still to come, New York technically controls their own destiny πŸ’«

Odds To Win The AL East (subject to change)

  • New York Yankees: -900 (bet $900, win $100)

  • Toronto Blue Jays: +1200 (bet $100, win $1,200)

  • Tampa Bay Rays: +1700

  • Baltimore Orioles: +14000

Trivia Question: How many times have the Yankees won the AL East Division title? (answer below)

Chasing The Yankees

The Rays and Blue Jays are within striking distance of the Yankees atop the AL East standings, but it will be a steep hill to climb. Let's start with Tampa Bay πŸ‘‡

  • Based on opponent win percentage, the Rays have the toughest remaining schedule in the American League β€” largely in part due to 3 games vs. NYY and 6 games vs. HOU

  • The Rays have relied heavily on their pitching to get them wins this season, boasting a 3.27 ERA (3rd-best in MLB)

  • However, they've dealt with the injury bug, having as many as 17 players on the injured list at one point this year, including recent 15-day IL victim Shane McClanahan πŸ€•

The Rays have won over 40 games at home this season, so I expect them to get it done tonight against the Red Sox, who have struggled since the All-Star Break 😬

  • Spread: Rays -1.5

  • Moneyline: Rays -172 (bet $172, win $100), Red Sox +144 (bet $100, win $144)

  • O/U: 7 Total Runs

As for the Blue Jays, they have a slightly easier remaining schedule, although they do face Tampa Bay nine times and New York three times

  • Toronto has one of the most exciting offenses in the league, posting a .260 batting average and ranking top-5 in nearly every other category

  • They'll need Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (27 HR) and Bo Bichette (22 HR) to lead the way for one last division push

Despite the Blue Jays being extremely inconsistent this season, they're over .500 on the road, so I like them in Baltimore tonight 🐦

  • Spread: Blue Jays -1.5

  • Moneyline: Blue Jays -154, Orioles +130

  • O/U: 7.5 Total Runs

For My Parlay Gurus

The AL East, which looked like the Yankees had in the bag a few months ago, has turned out to be a competitive race down the stretch. With every win becoming extremely important, I'm focused on the second and third place teams in the division. I'm riding with the Rays to cover spread at home against the Red Sox, and the Blue Jays to do the same, but on the road in Baltimore. Check it out πŸ‘‡

  • Rays -1.5 vs. Red Sox: +126

  • Blue Jays -1.5 vs. Orioles: +112
