Exorcising Demons
Sunday night was huge for the Las Vegas Aces. Aside from securing a home victory against the Connecticut Sun in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, the franchise secured its first win in a Finals series...ever 💪
In just five years since being relocated to Las Vegas, this is the second time the Aces have played for a title. The team has certainly moved past the 2020 let down (when they were swept by the Seattle Storm), considering they just bounced Sue Bird and company. Regardless, let's take a look at some of highlights from a nail biter of a Game 1 👇
Aces take Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, 67-64 vs. Sun

After getting out to a 25-17 lead in the first quarter, the Aces were outscored in the second period, 21-9
Alyssa Thomas came up huge for the Sun, putting up a double-double (19 pts & 11 rbs), and making key defensive plays against Chelsea Gray, one of the WNBA's best shotmakers
Speaking of Gray, the Aces' floor general is averaging 24.2 PPG over her last five games (which includes some cold-blooded shot making against the Storm) on 58.12 FG%. Expect her to have a big night again 👑

Two-Time MVP
You can't mention the Aces without brining up A'ja Wilson, who received her MVP trophy ahead of the game on Sunday night, marking her second time winning the award in just three seasons (2020 as well) 😤
The former number one pick from the 2018 WNBA draft averaged 19.5 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 2.1 APG and 1.4 SPG over the course of the 2022 season

Wilson is a playoff riser and takes a jump across most of the major statistics when the pressure is on. So far in her career, the do-it-all forward has notched 21 PPG, 10.9 RPG and 2.6 BPG in the postseason
The Sun had their hands full with Wilson, as she kept finding ways to get to the line, going 12-14 from the charity stripe in the Game 1 win 🔥

While obvious, the Aces go as Wilson and Gray go, and considering how dominant the two have been over the last few games, I expect the winning ways to continue 🙏
Trivia Question: How many other WNBA players have at least two MVP awards?

For My Parlay Gurus
Tonight I think the Aces manage to take care of business in a more convincing way, so I'm choosing them to cover spread. And this one might come out of left field, but with the Braves still firmly in the NL East race and Kyle Wright on the mound, I'm taking them to cover as well. Check it out 👇
Aces -4.5 vs. Sun: -106
Braves -1.5 @ Giants: EVEN
