An American TraditionĀ

There might not be a better holiday in the United States that mixes the consumption of food and sports better than Thanksgiving. Today marks the continuation of an NFL tradition that has been taking place since the 30s ā€” both the Lions and the Cowboys play host to the Bills and Giants in the afternoon, with the Vikings holding down primetime against the Patriots. Let's dive into some of the action, shall we? šŸ‘‡

Despite dealing with some elbow issues, Josh Allen has been able to steady the ship after taking down the Browns last weekend, snapping a two-game losing streak. Instead of forcing the issue through the air, Allen was content to let the Bills' rushing game become the focal point of the offense...to the tune of 171 yards on the ground (5.2 per carry)

Speaking of passing yards...Mahomes seems to be running away with this one šŸ¦¾

  • Patrick Mahomes: -280

  • Joe Burrow: +650

  • Josh Allen: +650

  • Justin Herbert: +1400

While Mahomes is firmly in command of this race, a late season surge from either Burrow or Allen could shake things up. Considering the Bills will still have to jockey for first place in the AFC East (four of their next seven involve divisional opponents), it's not impossible that Allen makes a late push

Thanksgiving Day Preview

Here is a rundown of the three games taking place today so you have some things to talk about with your Uncle and cousins šŸ¦ƒ

šŸ“ Bills vs. LionsĀ

As mentioned earlier, look for Buffalo's run game to set the tone for the day. Although it's worth pointing out that Bills mafia has yet to get consistent production from their running backs, so Allen may be forced into the passing game ahead of schedule

  • It's a short turnaround for the Allen and co, who have been traveling on short breaks due to the inclement weather that took over Buffalo last week

  • Detroit is riding a three-game win streak and sits only 1.5 games outside of a wild card spot. Expect constant pressure from Alim McNeill, the sophomore defensive tackle for the Lions who will be trying to make Allen uncomfortable

  • Spread: Bills -9.5

  • Moneyline: Bills -405 (bet $405, win $100), Lions +320 (best $100, win $320)

  • Over/Under: 54.5

  • When: 12:30PM EST on ABC

šŸ“ Giants vs. Cowboys

The city of Dallas is certainly feeling itself, coming off a masterclass performance against the Vikings last weekend, winning 40-3. It marked the Cowboys' third victory in four games šŸ‘€

  • Everything was clicking against Minnesota, especially for Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard, who both racked up a pair of scores. The Cowboys managed to find the end zone on their first seven drives

  • Aside from Dak looking more comfortable, a wager on Dallas is a wager on their defense, which leads the NFL in sacks at 42. Daniel Jones will be seeing a lot of Micah Parsons, who is coming off a two sack game

  • Spread: Cowboys -10

  • Moneyline: Cowboys -460, Giants +360

  • Over/Under: 45.5

  • When: 4:30PM on FOX

šŸ“ Patriots vs. Vikings

The Vikings will be looking to avenge a blowout loss and play host to the defensively stout Patriots ā€” expect Justin Jefferson to draw the entire attention of New Englands' defense, giving newly acquired tight end T.J Hockenson plenty of opportunities for yardage

  • Fresh off facing the NFL's best pass-rushing team, Minnesota will have to deal with arguably the second ā€” the Patriots have totaled 36 sacks themselves and will keep the pressure on Cousins

  • New England has not given up a touchdown in their last two games, and the Vikings failed to score one against the Cowboys last week, so expect some pressure on the Minnesota offense to get rolling right from the start

  • Spread: Vikings -2.5

  • Moneyline: Vikings -136, Patriots +116

  • Over/Under: 42.5

  • When: 8:20PM on NBC

For My Parlay Gurus

I'm leaning towards the under in the Vikings game ā€” with Cousins facing another elite defense, I think this one stays low. On the other hand I like Josh Allen and the Bills to put the hurt on in Detroit. Check out my parlay šŸ‘‡

  • Patriots vs. Vikings Under 42.5 Total Points: -110

  • Bills -9.5 @ Lions: -110

Trivia Answer: Historically the Lions have hosted a game on Thanksgiving since 1934, while the Cowboys have done the same beginning in 1966. It wasn't until 2006 that the NFL introduced a third game in the prime time slot, without fixed teams
