Never not the captain, LeBron's loaded squad is once again the All-Star game favorite. But don't sleep on Ja, Embiid and Trae to put up a fight 💰 (5 minute read)

NBA All-Star Game Preview

On Sunday in Cleveland, the NBA will showcase the best of the best in this season’s All-Star Game. Continuing on with the format implemented in 2018, the two teams are captained and drafted by the leading vote-getters from the East and the West

  • Despite sitting out due to injury, Kevin Durant selected one team, while LeBron (for the fifth straight year) selected the other ✋

  • See full rosters here

The game will also feature the Elam ending for the third straight year, where the end of the game is decided by a target score instead of a time limit. The target score is set by adding 24 points, in honor of Kobe, to the leading team’s score after three quarters. Having won the past four games, LeGM’s stacked team is favored coming into the weekend 👇

  • Spread: Team LeBron -5.5

  • Moneyline: Team LeBron -240 (bet $240, win $100), Team Durant +195 (bet $100, win $195)

  • O/U: 319.5 points

Skills Challenge Preview

While Sunday’s game is the main attraction, All-Star Weekend always has more in store. On Saturday, the NBA has three events planned — first up, three teams of three will compete in a Skills Challenge 🤌

  • Team Rooks: Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham, Josh Giddey

  • Team Cavs: Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley

  • Team Antetokounmpos: Alex, Giannis, Thanasis

The teams will compete in a shooting, passing, and relay round, before the final two teams try to make a half-court shot before the other. Vegas has set pretty even odds on the relatively unpredictable event 😅

  • Rooks: +160

  • Cavs: +170

  • Antetokounmpos: +200

My pick: This should come down to whoever can hit a halfcourt shot first, and I think Giddey’s got the goods. Give me Team Rooks

Trivia question: the last two winners of the Skills Challenge were both big men — who are they? (answer below)

3-Point Contest Preview

With newcomers up and down the lineup for the evening’s most underrated contest, it might be tough to settle on any one of these sharpshooters. Here’s how Vegas expects things to shake out 🏹

  • Patty Mills & Fred VanVleet: +440

  • Trae Young: +490

  • Desmond Bane, Zach LaVine & Luke Kennard: +600

  • CJ McCollum: +950

  • Karl-Anthony Towns: +1200

None of these guys have won the event before, but LaVine is participating for a third straight year and it’s Trae’s second consecutive time shooting. Maybe that gives them an advantage?

My pick: Any of these guys could could catch fire and run away with it, but I like KAT as a crazy underdog — he’s shooting a ridiculous 41% from three this season

Dunk Contest Preview

After some dissatisfying alterations to the format in past years, the dunk contest has returned in its traditional structure for the final event of the evening 🔨

  • Jalen Green: +130

  • Obi Toppin: +210

  • Cole Anthony: +350

  • Juan Toscano-Anderson: +600

Without a major body of work to go off of for any of these guys, it’s hard to know who might pop off in this glorified layup line

  • Obi was a disappointment last year, despite being a great in-game dunker

  • JTA had an awesomely powerful hammer over JaVale for one of the season’s best jams

  • You can watch all of Cole Anthony’s NBA dunks in under 90 seconds, so I’m staying away from him

My pick: Without much to love about the other contestants, I’m riding the rookie hype and hoping Green glides to a victory in style

For My Parlay Gurus

All-Star weekend is always a nice break from constant NBA games, and why not make it even better with a few bets. This one is obviously a long-shot, but hey, why not us? 👇

  • Team LeBron -5.5: -110

  • Team Rooks Skills Challenge Winner: +160

  • Karl-Anthony Towns 3-Point Contest Winner: +1200

A $100 bet on this banger would net a ridiculous $6,353 — if we hit, make sure to email [email protected] for $100*. First come, first serve 😉

Trivia answer: Domantas Sabonis won last year, while Bam Adebayo brought it home in 2020. Check out the full list of recent winners here
