🏈 Early Super Bowl Preview

This one's for all the marbles. For Mahomes and the Chiefs, it's a chance to further cement a dynasty. For Shanahan and the 49ers, it's all about finally winning the big one. The Super Bowl is just a few days away, and this should be a fun one 🍿 (2 min read)

Early Super Bowl Preview

The 2023 NFL season will conclude Sunday in the biggest game in American sports, as the legend Patrick Mahomes takes on the juggernaut that is San Francisco. There’s history here, as these two teams faced off four years ago in Super Bowl LIV. The 49ers will be looking for revenge against a Chiefs squad that struggled all season, but has rolled through the AFC in these playoffs 🔥

  • KC was a road underdog vs. both Buffalo and Baltimore, and crushed the hopes of their conference rivals in dispiriting fashion

  • San Francisco’s position as the slight favorite will only fuel the Chiefs’ self-belief. With this high octane matchup taking place in Las Vegas, it’s only right that record-setting amounts of money are on the line 🤑

Despite Mahomes’ unquestioned status as the league’s premiere QB, very few would have expected the Chiefs to be here a month ago. Kansas City has managed to patch over their uninspiring receiving corps with a Travis Kelce resurgence, a stout and playoff-tested defense, and of course, the brilliance of their signal caller. The 49ers are the superior team on paper, but so was Baltimore and arguably Buffalo 🤷‍♂️

  • It’s clear that the Chiefs enter every matchup feeling like the alpha, and at this point it’s difficult to bet against them

  • If KC can pull off this legendary run, it will surely take another vintage effort from their all-time great QB-TE duo

  • Mahomes is already a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer at 28, but winning a third title with team would be his greatest achievement

While the Chiefs’ case comes down to their generational quarterback, the 49ers’ path to victory is all about strength in numbers. Their amount of star power on both sides of the ball is silly — you could make a strong case that they have 7 of the top 10 players in this game. However, this postseason hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing in San Francisco, with the Niners fighting through close games with Green Bay and Detroit to get here 👀

  • The 49ers will not be able to come out flat like they did in past weeks if they want to beat Mahomes and co. They’ll have to play loose, dynamic football that showcases their superior talent and Brock Purdy’s surprising elusiveness

  • Purdy showed what he can do with his legs in the NFC Championship, and his teammates have been having fun with his miscast “game manager” title 😅

Game lines are below, but if you’re looking for some props here’s a few I like 👇

  • McCaffrey Any Time TD Scorer: -230

  • Kelce to reach 20 receiving yards before Kittle: -220

  • Deebo over 58.5 receiving yards: -110

  • Pacheco over 67.5 rushing yards: -110

Super Bowl LVIII Odds (subject to change)

  • Spread: 49ers -2.5

  • Moneyline: 49ers -130, Chiefs +110

  • Over/Under: 47.5

Trivia Question: If the 49ers win the Super Bowl, would Brock Purdy be the lowest drafted QB to ever win a Super Bowl?

For My Parlay Gurus

After a number of infamous choke jobs in big games, I like Kyle Shanahan to finally get the monkey off his back. It may seem foolhardy to count the Chiefs out, but I think the Niners can control the pace by running the ball and playing off script. Look for San Francisco to win it all in a tight game that’s higher scoring than expected 👇

  • 49ers -2.5 vs. Chiefs: -105

  • OVER 47.5 Total Points Scored: -110

$100 on this bet would win you $253 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win an Overtime hoodie*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉

Trivia Answer: Of course, one couldn’t technically draft someone lower than Purdy. But we’re counting undrafted players in this discussion, so Kurt Warner holds the title
