The Suns Have Won Seven Straight Games Vs. The Lakers

Phoenix enters the last week of the NBA season with the best record in the league, while the Lakers need a miracle to even get a play-in game 😬 (4 min read)

Lakers vs. Suns Preview

What's up Even The Odds crew, this is Raj Chipalu bringing you a Lakers update šŸ‘‡

While both these franchises came into the season with championship aspirations, the Lakers and Suns enter tonight on completely different paths. Phoenix boasts the best record in the league, while the Lakers sit firmly outside of the Western Conference play-in tournament 😳

  • Before losing two games in a row, the Suns had just rattled off a 9 game win streak, which included matching their franchise high of 62 wins

  • On the other hand, the Lakers are looking to end a 6 game skid, with low hopes of catching San Antonio for the last play-in spot, down two games with four left (SAS owns the tiebreaker)

Dating back to the 2021 playoffs, the Suns have beaten the Lakers seven consecutive times. LAL has had no answer for Devin Booker, who is averaging 25.3 PPG in their three contests this season on 44.4% shooting from three. Take a look at the lines heading into Tuesday night šŸ‘‡

A Season From Hell

One season removed from hoisting a championship and raising banner No. 17, the Lakers used last off-season to massively shift the identity of their roster

The theory behind the Westbrook trade was to give LeBron James a ball-handler to lighten the load in the regular season, with the hopes that the three-star team with Anthony Davis could support a roster filled with a majority of minimum salary spots šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

  • Fast-forward to the end of the season, and the ship has turned into the titanic. The trio of James, Davis & Westbrook have only played a combined 21 games together to this point, with a net -2.5 per 100 possessions when they've shared the floor

  • The first domino in the next few weeks will be the decision on head coach Frank Vogel. Moves such as signing Malik Monk and Carmelo Anthony over defenders such as Alex Caruso and Wesley Matthews don't look good 😬

  • Vogel has struggled to find cohesion in a roster lacking defensive talent, which is evident in the team having 39 different starting lineups this year

Looking towards next season, hope still stems from LeBron James, who at 37, might win the scoring title. Anthony Davis will miss at least half the season for the second straight year, but has shined when on the floor

A lot of questions will be answered in the coming weeks for a team that was sitting where Phoenix is hoping to be not too long ago šŸ†

Trivia question: Besides LeBron James and Anthony Davis, how many players on this current Lakers team played in the playoffs during their 2020 bubble title run? (answer below)

A Well-Oiled Machine

The Suns have dominated the league this entire season, and are the only team in the top three of both total offense and defense. The West flows through Phoenix, with home-court locked up throughout the playoffs with a seven game lead on the No. 2 seeded Grizzles. Their roster says it all šŸ‘‡

  • In a league so starved of young two-way wings, the Suns have two potential future stars in Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson

  • Jae Crowder and Torrey Craig fill out as other wings, with guys like Payne & Javale McGee contributing off the bench

  • DeAndre Ayton accepted his role and is a legitimate counter inside the paint when teams try and switch the heavy guard actions Phoenix runs 😤

The star backcourt of Paul and Booker continued right where they left off last year. CP3 leads the team in assists for the second straight year, and Devin Booker is an offensive superstar, averaging 26.6 PPG. They have the whole team running coach Monty Willams's system to perfection

  • Two years of almost an identical roster means Phoenix can almost run every action and counter in their sleep

  • Even with Chris Paul missing 15 games, the Suns still went 11-4 in his absence, with Booker carrying taking over whenever they needed a basket

Coming off a Finals trip, this team is the favorite to bring home a title at +280. The Suns have been the best team all year, and with Chris Paul back from his injury, they look poised for another long playoff run ā˜€ļø

For My Parlay Gurus

The Suns have beaten the Lakers by an average of 19 PPG this season. Unless they end up resting everyone, I like the Sun's spread at home. To finish off my parlay, I'm taking Memphis (even without Ja Morant) with the points on the road against a Jazz team limping to the finish line. Check it out šŸ‘‡

  • Suns -11.5 vs. Lakers: -110

  • Grizzlies +5 @ Jazz: -110

$100 on this parlay would win you $264 -- if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win šŸ˜‰

Trivia answer: Besides LeBron and AD, Dwight Howard and Talen Horton-Tucker are the only current Lakers on the 2019-2020 championship team
