The Suns (-1.5) Are On A Five-Game Winning Streak Without Chris Paul

Up against a sneakily hot Timberwolves team, the Suns will have their hands full in Minnesota. Both these teams have been elite in March šŸ”„ (4 min read)

Suns @ Timberwolves Preview

Despite their differential in the standings, as the first and seventh Western Conference seeds, the Suns and Timberwolves are two of the hottest teams in the league, each winning nine of their 11 March contests šŸ”„

Though Phoenix is clearly the better team on paper, the Wolves have a significant edge in availability. The Suns are missing both their Cam's (Johnson & Payne) in addition to Chris Paul, while the Timberwolves will only lack the long arms of Jaden McDaniels

  • Spread: Suns -1.5

  • Moneyline: Suns -120 (bet $120, win $100), T-Wolves +102 (bet $100, win $102)

  • O/U: 235.5

The Suns Are Up To Something

Down to single-digit games remaining on the NBA regular season schedule, the Suns are inches away from a historic record šŸ„‡

  • If Phoenix can hold or extend their current nine-game advantage over the Grizzlies, they'll be the first team since the 1991-92 Bulls to lead the entire NBA in record by that large of a margin (via Kyle Odergard)

  • The Suns also just became the fifth team in NBA history to spend more than 20 days as the league's only 50-game winner, and the first since the 1982-83 76ers, with all four previous teams going on to win it all (via ESPN Stats & Info) šŸ‘€

Despite Devin Booker missing time with a pulled hammy, Deandre Ayton's PED suspension, and Chris Paul's broken finger, the Suns have continued to win games at the league-leading rate. Here's how they've fared without their biggest names (via Kalyb Champion) šŸ‘‡

  • 8-3 without Devin Booker

  • 10-4 without Chris Paul

  • 18-3 without Deandre Ayton

Trivia question: Who leads the Suns in 3P% this season (minimum 100 attempts)? (answer below)

Apex Predator

Overcoming the two Suns nominated for Western Conference Player of the Week (Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton), Karl Anthony-Towns won the award for the eighth time in his career, and the third time this season 🐺

  • KAT's gotten hot as of late, ripping off all five his games of at least 36 points since the start of 2022, including a 40-pointer and a career-best 60-piece against the Spurs this week

He's been particularly effective as a scorer on the drive this season (via @WolvesClips) -- among players who average at least five drives per game, here's where KAT ranks šŸ‘‡

  • 3rd in Points %

  • 5th in Field Goal %

  • 5th in Foul %

However, it's these drives that often trigger some of KAT's most out of control passing and sloppy play 😬

  • 8th in Turnover % (behind three rookies and a sophomore)

  • 4th-worst Assist %

  • 7th-lowest Pass %

If KAT can continue to evolve into an MVP-level offensive superstar, his growth as a playmaker is one of the most important areas of improvement for him to address

For My Parlay Gurus

Although the Suns have been dominant with whatever lineup they've rolled out, the T-Wolves are in a battle with the Nuggets for the sixth seed and a chance to skip the play-in tournament

With more at stake, I've got the Wolves covering at home. I'm also taking the Grizzlies at home with the points to complete my parlay in what might be the game of the night šŸ‘‡

  • Wolves +1.5 vs. Suns: -110

  • Grizzlies +2.5 vs. Nets: -110

$100 on this bet would win you $264 -- if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for $100*. First come, first serve šŸ˜‰

Trivia answer: Cam Johnson leads the Suns in 3P% this season, shooting a ridiculous .45% on 355 attempts
