Stanley Cup Playoff Update
No contender is ever safe in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and as the Tampa Bay Lightning just proved, that includes the winner of the Presidents' Trophy ๐ฌ
The Florida Panthers, who were on the wrong end of a sweep at the hands of Tampa Bay, are just the latest in a long list of regular season champs to come up short in the postseason
Nine straight winners of the Presidents' Trophy have failed to pair it with a Stanley Cup, and since 1985, only eight teams have won both in the same season
With the regular seasonโs best team out of the way, the Colorado Avalanche, who play tonight, have tightened their grip on the role of title favorite. However, fresh off that convincing sweep, the Lightning are right on their tails as they look to capture a third straight Cup. Hereโs an updated look at the remaining contenders ๐
Colorado Avalanche: +140 (bet $100, win $140)
Tampa Bay Lightning: +260
Carolina Hurricanes: +550
Edmonton Oilers: +650
Trivia Question: Who was the last team to win the Stanley Cup and the Presidents' Trophy in the same season? (answer below)

Blues vs. Avalanche Preview
On account of the surprisingly brief Panthers-Lightning series, we have just one game on tap tonight, but it should be a good one. Check out how the lines are shaping up for Game 5 between the Blues and Avalanche (COL leads 3-1) ๐
Blues vs. Avalanche Betting Preview (subject to change)
Spread: Avalanche -1.5
Moneyline: Avalanche -240 (bet $240, win $100), Blues +195 (bet $100, win $195)
O/U: 6.5
Itโs win or go home tonight for the Blues, and unfortunately for them, theyโre playing in a building that hasnโt been kind to visitors recently
The Avalanche had the fewest home losses in the league this season, with a 32-5-4 record at Ball Arena, and theyโve gone 3-1 there this postseason
For what it's worth, that one loss was handed to them by the Blues back in Game 2, but Colorado got their revenge with two convincing wins in St. Louis ๐ค
Besides the Avalanche outscoring the the Blues 11-5 across two games at the Enterprise Center, their trip to St. Louis sparked some bad blood
Colorado centre Nazem Kadri, who has a checkered past with St. Louis, collided with their goalie Jordan Binnington in Game 3, knocking him out of action
Kadri received threats on Twitter as a result of the incident, and how did he respond? With his first career playoff hat trick in Game 4 ๐
If the Blues had focused more on winning instead of trying to get even with Kadri, their season might not be on the line tonight...just saying ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Points Watch
With a lot riding on this Blues-Avalanche game, hereโs some of the player point lines I'll be watching closely tonight๐
๐ Nazem Kadri, COL (O/U 0.5)
No surprise here, all eyes will be on Kadri once again tonight after registering four goals and six points across two games in St. Louis
๐ David Perron, STL (O/U 0.5)
Perron is surprisingly the Blues' leader in playoff points with 13, and he's notched a pair of two-goal performances over the last three games
๐ Nathan MacKinnon, COL (O/U 1.5)
MacKinnon has long been one of the best players in the NHL, but the 2013 first overall pick has never appeared in a championship playoff round. He'll look to change that tonight ๐

For My Parlay Gurus
With St. Louis being unable to defend their home ice in Games 3 & 4, I'm not overly optimistic about their chances tonight in one of the toughest road environments in the league. I'm going with the Avalanche to take the series, and I'm banking on Nathan MacKinnon to show out in the process. Take a look ๐
Avalanche -1.5 vs. Blues: +102
Nathan MacKinnon Over 1.5 Points: +138

Trivia Answer: The 2013 Chicago Blackhawks were the last team to win both the Stanley Cup and the Presidents' Trophy. Blackhawk legend Patrick Kane, who just suited up for his 15th season in Chicago, was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs
