NFC West Preview
Yes, I know...it's preseason, who cares? Well I definitely could use a change of pace...let's talk NFL. The Los Angeles Rams' title defense is set to begin exactly four weeks from today, when they host the Super Bowl favorite Buffalo Bills (+650) on September 8th to kick off the 2022 NFL season πΏ
The tough opening matchup is just the tip of the iceberg for the Rams, who were rewarded for their Super Bowl victory with the most difficult schedule this season. How thoughtful π

A big factor in LA's strength of schedule? The fact they play in the deepest division in the NFC, featuring two additional playoff teams from last season. The NFC West race is shaping up to be highly competitive once again this year β take a look at each team's odds π
Odds to win NFC West (subject to change)
Los Angeles Rams: +125 (bet $100, win $125)
San Francisco 49ers: +200
Arizona Cardinals: +300
Seattle Seahawks: +1500
No offense to any big believers in the Geno Smith vs. Drew Lock quarterback battle brewing up in Seattle, but it should be another three-horse race this season, with the Rams starting as the rightful leader of the pack
However, despite returning most of their Super Bowl-winning core, while also adding some impressive reinforcements, LA is still plus money to repeat as division champs π€
The value there is too good to pass up, so the Rams are my pick to come out on top of the NFC West
But, Rams fans shouldn't get too comfortable; the 49ers and their impressive defense should be a worthy challenger, while the Kliff Kingsbury-led Cardinals have improved each year. With all that said, both teams will only go as far as their quarterback can take them π€
Trivia Question: When is the last time the Cardinals won the NFC West? (answer below)

Player Spotlight
The NFC West is home to some of the most electric players in the league, and also a few mysteries. Here are a couple of players who could have a serious impact on the division race π
π Kyler Murray, QB (Cardinals)
Fresh off a postseason debut last year, expectations are at an all-time high for Kyler Murray as he enters his fourth season in the league, especially after getting paid this offseason π°
There's no doubt the former Heisman winner is an electric individual talent who justifies the $230M price tag, even though reports of an "independent study clause" were a bit concerning
Losing D-Hop for the season's first six games due to a PED suspension stings, but with Murray's former college teammate Hollywood Brown now in town, there's no reason why he shouldn't have his best season yet
Kyler is currently +2000 to bring home an MVP trophy this season, which is great value for a guy with his dual-threat upside
π Trey Lance, QB (49ers)
Speaking of guys with dual-threat upside, may I present you with perhaps the biggest X-factor in the entire league: sophomore quarterback Trey Lance
The North Dakota State product appeared in just six games as a rookie, but his potential is so tantalizing he's already checking in as a dark-horse MVP candidate (+4000)
San Francisco clearly believes in what they've seen thus far, so much so that they're willing to move on from established starter Jimmy G
Lance's rushing ability adds a new element to the offense, and if he has the breakout season many are expecting, the Niners could emerge as a serious Super Bowl threat. Throws like this in camp make it easy to dream π
#49ers Trey Lance and Brandon Aiyuk can not be stopped π€

π Allen Robinson, WR (Rams)
The first two names on this list have been a bit obvious, so for my last inclusion I'm going with one of the most underrated pickups of the offseason: Allen Robinson
Cooper Kupp rightfully demands most of the attention in LA's WR room, but don't sleep on A-Rob, who finally has a good starting QB for the first time in his career
It was a slow 2021 season for the talented wideout, but he averaged 100 receptions for nearly 1,200 yards over the previous two years, largely catching balls from Mitch Trubisky
With Stafford at the helm, don't be surprised if we see one of Robinson's best seasons yet, and with little competition for targets outside of Kupp, I expect him to blow past his O/U of 850.5 receiving yards

For My Parlay Gurus
Who doesn't love rooting for touchdowns? I know the preseason doesn't quite compare to the real deal, but there's a pair of games going down tonight, which means the only rational thing to do is take the over in both of them. Here's the parlay I'm going with π
Giants vs. Patriots Over 33.5: -115
Titans vs. Ravens Over 31.5: -110
