NFC Championship Preview 🏈

The Eagles were hardly tested in their first playoff matchup, but this Sunday they'll play the hottest team in the league: the Brock Purdy led 49ers. These squads have been the two best in the NFC for the last three months, so it's only right they meet for a chance to go to Glendale πŸ† (3 min read)

Cream of the NFC Crop

Despite the joy of seeing an upset, or a team take out a more talented opponent in the NFL playoffs, there's something undeniable about witnessing the best face off against the best. This year's NFC championship will provide exactly that, as the league's top team will take on the hottest squad for a trip to the Super Bowl πŸ†

  • The Niners represent organizational excellence, as San Francisco has reached the NFC Championship Game three of the past four seasons

  • The Eagles on the other hand have not had a deep playoff run since their 2018 Super Bowl title, having accumulated only one postseason win since Nick Foles hoisted the Vince Lombardi trophy

  • Speaking of Philadelphia, Kenneth Gainwell was dominant against the Giants last weekend, accumulating over 100 yards en route to a career high 121

Meanwhile the Niners managed to win a tough game against the Cowboys, primarily because they won the QB battle β€” rookie Brock Purdy had no INTs to Dak Prescott's two. Before getting into some aspects of the matchup, let's take a second to marvel at the sheer talent spread across both squads ⭐️

  • The Eagles sport the league's best defense in terms of yards allowed, and proved why after limiting Daniel Jones to just 159

  • The Niners boast the league's best overall defense, and managed to do just enough offensively (courtesy of a Christian McCaffery) against the Cowboys to inch one win closer to the big game

  • Examining both teams' offensive personnel will bring up names like Deebo Samuel, George Kittles, AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and Miles Sanders. These guys are both truly stacked πŸ—£

Heading into the weekend, we have one of the tighter Super Bowl odds race in recent years, as any of these four squads could pull it off. Take a look πŸ‘‡

Odds To Win The Super BowlΒ (subject to change)

  • Niners: +320

Unstoppable Forces

Perhaps the number one narrative heading into this game will be whether or not Brock Purdy is able to continue his unbelievable run towards the stuff of NFL legend. The last pick in the 2022 draft has not lost a game since becoming a starter (eight straight, including two playoff wins), accounting for a majority of the Niners' 12 consecutive victories πŸ‘

If there is one weak point in the Eagles defense, it would have to be how they handle the run and vulnerability against the short-pass β€” expect McCaffrey to be a focal point for Kyle Shanahan's gameplan πŸ“‹

  • On the other hand, running the ball against the Niners is a tall order. The Eagles live and die with Jalen Hurt, but look for Philly to get the ball out of his hands to AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith

  • If Hurts can open up the field and force San Francisco to focus on Philly's deep threats, his dual-threat capability will start to present some issues

This wouldn't be a high-level playoff game without some referee-related conspiracy theories floating around. John Hussey will take the reigns on calling this year's NFC championship, and his track record with both teams is interesting to say the least πŸ˜…

Heading into last weekend, many expected the Niners to be road favorites due to Hurts' injury. But after routing the Giants, the Eagles look like the team to beat, and Vegas agrees πŸ€‘

  • Spread: Eagles -2.5

  • Moneyline: Eagles -148 (bet $148, win $100), Niners +126

  • Over/Under: 46.5

For My Parlay Gurus

I think this game will be an offensive explosion given the sheer talent on both teams - give me the over. The Niners also seem undeniable right now, and while the Eagles are certainly capable of stopping them, I think the Purdy train rolls on to the Super Bowl. Take a look πŸ‘‡

  • Niners +2.5 @ Eagles: -105

  • Over 46.5 Total Points: -110
