The NBA's Best Team Is An Underdog

The Suns cruised in two homes games vs. the Mavs, but now that the series is heading back to Dallas, oddsmakers like Luka's team to steal Game 3. Plus, let's take a look at Saturday's biggest game πŸ€ (4 min read)

We hit our NHL bet yesterday πŸ˜‰. Tonight's parlay is Mavs -.5 vs. Suns & Bucks -2.5 vs. Celtics (on Sat). More info below on a chance to win $100 πŸ‘‡

NBA Playoffs Check-in

Happy Friday‼️ With the second round of the NBA playoffs fully underway, lets check in on every series before diving into a couple of upcoming matchups πŸ‘‡

  • Memphis took Game 2 at home, sending their series with the Warriors back to San Fransisco knotted up at one

  • The Heat have won each of the first two games against the Sixers by an average of 15 points, both without Joel Embiid...who was ruled out of Game 3

  • The Suns snagged a commanding 2-0 advantage on the road vs. the Mavs after Chris Paul closed out Game 2 with another dazzling performance

  • The Bucks couldn't overcome the Celtics' stifling defense in Boston twice, and now head home to Milwaukee with the series tied

Personally, I'm on the Suns and Warriors to go the distance, but if you want to snag a different future, take a look at the lines for the remaining eight teams πŸ‘‡

  • Suns: +200

  • Warriors: +320

  • Heat: +450

  • Celtics: +500

  • Bucks: +700

  • Grizzlies: +1900

  • Mavericks: +5500

  • 76ers: +6000

Suns @ Mavs Preview

When Embiid was ruled out, we decided to skip the Heat vs. Sixers matchup πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. And after a pair of matchups in Phoenix, the Mavs have one last chance to make this a series before they're effectively toast. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit...

  • Right now, at +155, Vegas projects that the most likely outcome is that the Suns win in five games

  • However, considering the comeback he almost pulled off against the Clippers in the Bubble, it's probably unwise to count Luka Doncic out before the series is over

Even in two losses, Luka's put up some major numbers πŸ‘‡

  • 40.0 PPG

  • 8.5 RPG

  • 7.5 APG

Leading his team in every major statistical category, Doncic has kept the series relatively competitive without much help. Spencer Dinwiddie and Jalen Brunson are each shooting 33% or worse from the field, and have combined to average 22.5 PPG across the first two games 😬

  • That's just about half of the 43.1 PPG that duo averaged across six first round games against the Jazz

  • At this point, the Mavs will need to give Luka some help at home if they hope to make things competitive...and Vegas basically has this game at a pick'em 😳

Suns vs. Mavs Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Mavs -.5

  • Moneyline: Suns -122 (bet $112, win $100), Mavs -104 (bet $104, win $100)

  • O/U: 219.5 total points

Trivia Question: Can you name the most recent professional team to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series? (answer below)

Celtics @ Bucks Preview

Looking ahead to Saturday's primetime matchup, the Bucks return to Milwaukee after splitting the series' first pair at the TD Garden 🦌

  • Although Giannis has struggled to overcome the constant pressure of the Celtics' swarming defense, he too has caused problems for the C's on the other end as a disruptive help defender

  • He's tallied a trio of blocks in the two games, and has gotten it done for his team as both a rebounder and playmaker, averaging 11 RPG and 9.5 APG

Boston's superstar wings have probably been the two best players in the series, each averaging over 20 PPG on above average efficiency. With nine steals between the Jay-Team in two games, they've been at least as effective on the defensive end, thwarting drives and intercepting passes ❌

  • The Bucks have stolen away home court advantage, but without Khris Middleton to deal with, the Celtics (on paper) have one of the easier path to the Conference Finals in what is looking like a matchup with the Heat

  • However, it's hard to bet against the reigning champs and Finals MVP when he's playing close to the best basketball of his career. If Giannis starts hitting free throws at his typical playoff rate (around 70% instead of 55%), the Celtics could be in trouble πŸ’¨

  • Spread: Bucks -2.5

  • Moneyline: Bucks -142, Celtics +120

  • O/U: 213

For My Parlay Gurus

With their backs against the wall, I've got the home favorite Mavs taking care of business to extend the series, with the Bucks doing the same on Saturday. We hit our NHL bet last night, maybe give us a look πŸ‘€

  • Mavs -.5 vs. Suns: -106

  • Bucks -2.5 vs. Celtics: -110

$100 on this bet would win you $271 β€” if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win πŸ˜‰

Trivia Answer: Most people think the most recent 3-0 comeback was the 2004 Red Sox vs. the Yankees in the ALCS, but it's actually the 2014 LA Kings in the 2014 Western Conference First Round vs. the San Jose Sharks
