Best Two Out Of Three

Everything up to now is all a wash. The 2022 NBA Finals comes down to a best-of-three series, with the momentum swinging Golden State's way as they head back home. Of course, nothing is certain, as we saw in the Warriors outscore the Celtics 17-3 in the final five minutes of Game 4 😳

  • The Warriors have only lost one home game this postseason — Game 1 of this series

  • As they showed in that game, the Celtics are not daunted by playing on the road

  • Boston has compiled a remarkable 8-3 record on the road this playoffs, only one win behind the record held by the 1995 Houston Rockets 🚀

The C's will have their work cut out for them in the Chase Center, where a flaming hot Steph Curry will look to take control of the series. Despite the stout defense, Curry has emerged as the clear-cut favorite (-145) for his first Finals MVP, and has received the most bets and money to win the award. His performance in Game 4 was truly historic (numbers don't lie), and we're all waiting to see what the encore brings ⏳

Celtics vs. Warriors Odds (subject to change)

  • Spread: Warriors -4

  • Moneyline: Warriors -168 (bet $168, win $100), Celtics +142 (bet $100, win $142)

  • Over/Under: 212

Man On A Mission

It'd be foolish not to focus an entire section of this newsletter on Steph Curry's exploits. He's put together the finest series of his career so far, and has proven unfazed by the top-ranked Celtics defense. His historic scoring numbers have been needed in order to carry a supporting cast decidedly inferior to past Championship teams 🌉

  • Curry is averaging more PPG at 34.3 than the next two Warriors (Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins) combined

  • His efficiency hasn't suffered a bit despite this outsized offensive role, as he's shooting 50% from the field and 49% from three

  • This dominance is causing some to speculate that Curry should be the Finals MVP regardless of the series outcome 👀

It seems too early to make such a bold declaration, but Steph has undeniably shown himself to be head-and-shoulders above the rest of the players on either squad. His masterfully efficient scoring at the highest stage has landed him in truly rarefied air. While each of his games this series has been insane, his performance in Game 4 was likely the best of his career 👇

Trivia Question: Only one player on the losing team has ever won Finals MVP, who was it? (answer below)

Celtics Check-In

The Celtics haven't lost back-to-back games since March, and are 7-0 following a loss this postseason. While Curry presents a unique challenge due to his gravity from just about half court onward, the Celtics' litany of multi-purpose threats should feel confident heading into Game 4 ☘️

  • Boston squandered an opportunity to all but finish the series on Friday, falling prey to unfortunate turnover habits that have popped up throughout this postseason

  • They delved far too often into hero ball in crunch time, lacking the movement and balance that stimulates their offense

  • Jayson Tatum's numbers haven't been pretty, as his 34% shooting from the field is the worst ever in the Finals from a player shooting 20+ times a game

With benches shortened like usual in the Finals, look for Derrick White to continue to show out. He's averaging 14 PPG off the bench, and actually played more minutes than starters Al Horford and Robert Williams in Game 4. I shadily like the over on his points prop, which is set at 12.5 👀

For My Parlay Gurus

I have no doubt that Curry will keep up his torrid scoring pace in Game 4, but I'm betting on the Celtics to prove that they are the deeper and more versatile team. Four points seems like a big line, so I like the value there. Plus, this Boston squad seems to go as DPOY Marcus Smart goes, so I'm pairing that bet with his individual points prop. It's not sexy, but it just might work 👇

  • Celtics +4 vs. Warriors : -112

  • Marcus Smart OVER 14.5 points: -122
