The Mets Have Gone From +2000 To +1100 To Win The World Series
Max Scherzer is going from LA to NY, and books are taking his move very seriously. The Mets are now tied for the third-best odds to win the World Series ⚾️ (3 minute read)
The Jokic brothers partied in Miami after beating the Heat on Monday night 🍾. Let’s talk Max Scherzer and the Mets 👇

Mad Money Mets
Last Wednesday, when pitcher Steven Matz inked a new deal with the St. Louis Cardinals in lieu of re-upping with the Mets, owner Steve Cohen took to Twitter to voice his displeasure, “I’m not happy this morning”
Since then, Cohen has seemingly retaliated on tilt, filling out his franchise with some of the biggest names in baseball. Since he started his spending spree, the Mets have committed more than $200M to new players, the most of any team this offseason
Eduardo Escobar: 2 years, $20M
Mark Canha: 2 years, $28M
Starling Marte: 4 years, $78M
Max Scherzer: 3 years, $130M
By the time the latter of the four deals was done, the Mets had nearly halved their odds of winning the World Series (+2000 to +1100), jumping into the inner circle of contenders
Los Angeles Dodgers: +600 (bet $100, win $600)
Houston Astros: +1000
Chicago White Sox: +1100
New York Mets: +1100
New York Yankees: +1200

The Super Staff
At $43.3M per year, Scherzer’s new deal holds the largest average annual value of any player in Major League Baseball history. But why pay a 37-year-old a record sum into his age-40 season? Well, he just might be the greatest pitcher of his generation 🗽
Three-time Cy Young Award winner
Finished in the top five of Cy Young voting in eight of the last nine seasons
Finished third last year
The Mets rotation now features two of the most elite pitchers in the game — and if there’s one man inarguably better than Scherzer, it’s Jacob DeGrom 👑
Two-time Cy Young Award winner
Finished in the top 10 of Cy Young voting in six of the last seven seasons
Finished ninth last year (only played half the season)
While the Mets have a couple of question marks rounding out their rotation, they now have what is easily the top starting pitching duo in all of baseball
Trivia Question: Which pitcher has won the most Cy Young Awards? (answer below)

Scherzer Vs. The League
In one offseason, the Mets significantly increased they payroll, but that’s what you get when your owner is worth over $15B and looking for a World Series title
To put it into perspective, Scherzer’s $43M annual salary is actually comparable to the entire payroll of a few teams 💰
Seattle Mariners: $57M total
Cleveland Guardians: $46.7M
Max Scherzer: $43.3M
Pittsburgh Pirates: $40.2M
Baltimore Orioles: $37M
