Matthew Stafford Is 0-3 In His Postseason Career

The Cardinals and Rams will wrap up Wild Card Weekend tonight. Only one thing is certain, either Kyler Murray or Matthew Stafford will secure their first postseason victory 🏈 (4 minute read)

Travis Kelce took a direct snap and threw a jump-pass TD, I think Mahomes is rubbing off on him 👀 — let’s talk Cardinals vs. Rams 👇

Cardinals vs. Rams Preview

The Rams and Cardinals have squared off 87 times, but just one of those matchups came in the postseason. In 1975, the Rams defeated the then-St. Louis Cardinals in an NFL divisional-round game, 35-23. Things were different in 1975…

  • 🎥 “Jaws” was the highest-grossing film

  • 🎵 “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain & Tennille won record of the year

  • 📺 “Saturday Night Live” premiered on NBC

  • 🥛 A quart of milk was $0.46

  • 🇺🇸 Gerald R. Ford was our U.S. President

Fast forward to tonight and we’ll get to watch a rubber match that will determine which team goes to Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady and the Bucs. The Cardinals and Rams split the season series, with the road team winning both games. Over the last five years, Los Angeles has had Arizona’s number, but all that gets erased in this playoff bout

  • Spread: Rams -3.5

  • Moneyline: Cardinals +160 (bet $100, win $160), Rams -190 (bet $190, win $100)

  • Over/Under: 49

Rams Against The Spread

Just like Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford is a former No. 1 overall pick who is looking for his first career playoff win. The only difference? Stafford has been trying to end that drought since Kyler was in seventh grade

LA won five of their final six games of the regular season, so there’s no question the Rams have all the momentum. I’m taking Los Angeles against the spread (-3.5), and here’s why 👇

  • Every game in this matchup since 2017 has been decided by seven or more points

  • The Rams have covered spread in nine of their last 10 games against the Cardinals

For the Rams to get a win, they’ll need to contain one of the most lethal dual-threat QBs in the NFL. In Week 14, they sacked Kyler four times and was able to pressure him on half his drop-backs. In addition, Los Angeles, who is led by Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd and Von Miller, is giving up fewer than 22 PPG this season

Then, there’s the offensive side of the ball. When the Rams’ offense is clicking, they’re a tough team to beat

  • Stafford finished the regular season with 4,886 passing yards (3rd in NFL)

  • WR Cooper Kupp finished with 1,947 receiving yards (1st in NFL)

  • The Rams averaged 27.1 PPG this season, and they put up 30 points in their last matchup against the Cardinals

It will be the first playoff game in the history of the multibillion-dollar SoFi stadium, so I expect the Rams to come out strong tonight 😤

Matthew Stafford Prop Bet

In March 2021, the Rams completed a blockbuster trade, sending Jared Goff to the Lions for Matthew Stafford — a deal that was done for this exact moment. Goff led LA to the Super Bowl, but they felt Stafford could be the final piece to help them lift the Lombardi Trophy. Despite being 0-3 in his postseason career, Stafford doesn’t seem to be feeling the added pressure…

Every time I step on the field, I’m proving myself, whether it’s a preseason game or a regular-season game, practice, a playoff game. I want to go out there and play well. This is just another opportunity to do that.

Whether he thinks there is pressure or not, Stafford will be expected to perform well after his MVP-type showing in the regular season. Let’s take a look at his passing yards prop for tonight 👇

  • Over 272.5: -115

  • Under 272.5: -115

Stafford threw for 275+ yards in 12 games this season, including both of his matchups with the Cardinals. However, the Rams have had ups-and-downs based on Stafford’s play

  • He finished with the third-most passing yards in the NFL

  • But, he also tied rookie Trevor Lawrence for the most interceptions in the league with 17

When all is said and done though, I’m riding the Stafford to Kupp connection tonight. Coming off his ninth career regular season with 4,000+ passing yards, I like Stafford to hit the over on his passing yards prop

Trivia question: Stafford currently has the 12th most passing yards of all-time. Can you name the four active QBs ahead of him? (answer below)

For My Parlay Gurus

For the third time under Coach Sean McVay, the Rams are in the postseason as NFC West Champions. If the Rams want to become the second team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl at their home stadium, then they’ll need to get a win against the Cardinals tonight to keep those hopes alive. In this Cardinals-Rams trilogy, I’m going with an all-Rams parlay 👇

  • Rams -3.5 vs. the Cardinals: -105

  • Matthew Stafford over 272.5 passing yards: -115

Throwing down $100 on this parlay would result in a $265 payout. If this hits, make sure to email [email protected] for $100**. First come, first serve 💰

Trivia answer: Tom Brady has the most passing yards of all-time — the other three active players ahead of Stafford are Ben Roethlisberger (5th), Matt Ryan (8th) and Aaron Rodgers (10th)
