AFC West Showdown

While the Chiefs and Raiders have all the makings of a top-notch division rivalry, this matchup has been pretty uneven for most of the past decade. Since Andy Reid took the reins in Kansas City, the Chiefs boast a 15-3 record over the Raiders. They've scored a remarkable 32.7 PPG across these 18 games, nearly 10 points over the NFL average in that span πŸ‘€

  • Patrick Mahomes is coming off an absolute beat down Tom Brady and Tampa Bay's much-heralded defense

  • Mahomes lit up the Bucs for three touchdowns, including one of the most incredible plays in recent memory πŸ‘‡

On the other side, the Raiders have stumbled to 1-3 start to the season. However, they've looked better than their record, as each loss came in close games that could have gone either way. Derek Carr is still working to integrate Davante Adams into the offense, and has struggled behind an inconsistent offensive line 😬

  • Spread: Chiefs -7.5

  • Moneyline: Chiefs -340 (bet $340, win $100), Raiders +275 (bet $100, win $275)

  • Over/Under: 51.5

A Tale of Two Seasons

These squads have clearly enjoyed differing levels of success in this young season, but I think this matchup will be much closer than the spread indicates. Davante Adams is building momentum following a slow start β€” he totaled 101 yards last week against the Broncos. This performance, in tandem with RB Josh Jacobs' 144 yards on the ground, led the Raiders to their long-awaited first win of the season πŸ’ͺ

  • There was a lot of hype surrounding this college QB-WR duo reuniting this past offseason

  • So far, Carr has struggled to consistently find Adams, but the connection looked to be improving against Denver

  • Carr found success targeting Adams, and even showed surprising mobility out of the pocket πŸ’¨

The Chiefs' dismantling of Tampa Bay demonstrated just how lethal this team can be when they're clicking on all cylinders. Mahomes is the best in the business, and Kansas City's offense can reach a level of dominance that perhaps no one but Buffalo can touch. It seemed like KC would miss the elite production of WR Tyreek Hill, but Mahomes has seamless integrated Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster into the offense πŸ”₯

  • At the end of the day, Mahomes' ability to scramble out of the pocket and make magic happen can keep KC in a game regardless of their receiver talent

  • Of course, the stabilizing presence of TE Travis Kelce gives the QB a constant weapon to rely on. This star duo continued to set records in the win over the Bucs ⭐️

Mahomes on Monday Night!? What more can you ask for to end an eventful Week 5 of football πŸ₯°

Trivia Question: The Chiefs have the best record in the NFL over the past five years, sitting at 63-22. Who holds the second best?

For My Parlay Gurus

I don't like the Chiefs' odds of covering the spread, given how big it is. The Raiders' offense is finally starting to click, and frankly they have too many weapons to be a bad team. The Chiefs' passing defense has looked poor all season, and I think Carr finds Davante early and often, potentially propelling Las Vegas to a shootout win. Am I the only one betting on the Raiders? 🍿

  • Raiders +7.5 @ Chiefs: -118

  • OVER 51.5 Total Points Scored: -110
