Playoffs Coming Soon

With the 2022 NFL season coming down to the wire, this week's installment of Thursday Night Football holds major playoff implications. The Dallas Cowboys enter the contest riding high after a huge Christmas W over the Eagles. It will be difficult for Dallas to catch Philly for the division, but they are pretty much locked into the top NFC wild card spot. This seeding would be fortuitous for the Cowboys, as the five seed will take on the winner of the hapless NFC South 👀

  • Long postseason campaigns have been few in Dallas since their mid-90s dynasty, as they haven't reached an NFC title game since 1995

  • This year represents perhaps the Cowboys' best chance yet to break this streak — can they hold strong down the stretch? ⏳

On the other end, the Tennessee Titans are a team clearly in free fall, having lost five consecutive games. The Titans have squandered their division lead in the process, and will need a W this week to stay on pace with the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars. Everything is trending down in Nashville, as QB Ryan Tannehill is likely out for the season due to an ankle injury. Rookie QB Malik Willis will need to step up in order to give the Titans a chance, but he hasn't looked quite ready for the pros yet... 😬

  • Spread: Cowboys -12.5

  • Moneyline: Cowboys -670 (bet $670, win $100), Titans +490 (bet $100, win $490)

  • Over/Under: 39.5

Who's Got the Edge?

It's pretty clear from the steep spread that Dallas is the prohibitive favorite in this one, but the Cowboys have looked far from unbeatable this year. The once-stout defense has been porous in recent games, largely due to a flood of injuries in the secondary. The Cowboys will be depending more than ever on versatile star LB Micah Parsons to blow up plays with his game-changing athleticism and keep Dallas competitive on the defensive end 💪

  • The Cowboys have been one of the most explosive offenses in the league since QB Dak Prescott's return from injury, but they've struggled to maintain consistency

  • Dak ranks near the top of the league with 12 INTs, but his willingness to take chances has powered the third-highest scoring offense in the NFL

  • He's more than made up for his mistakes by producing some of the most jaw-dropping throws of the year 🎥

Tennessee seemed like a team heading for a decline this season, following the puzzling decision to trade star receiver AJ Brown in the offseason. However, the Titans refused to let a slow start rattle them and rode their proven formula — running everything through powerful RB Derrick Henry, with some Tannehill play action sprinkled in — to a 7-3 record. In the past five weeks, each of which have resulted in a Tennessee loss, the issues of age and WR talent that led many to question this team in the offseason have all popped up 👇

  • Henry, at 6'3/247 lbs, is still a monster of a human being capable of tearing apart any defense, but the soon to be 29-year-old is on the upper edge of the brief running back life span

  • He's become increasingly injury prone of late, and is now doubtful to play in this one due to a hip injury. It'll be on the struggling Willis and the passing game to carry the Titans offense — the rookie hasn't put up great numbers so far but he's shown flashes of the athleticism and arm talent that merited his draft selection 🔥

Trivia Question: Dak Prescott is (surprisingly) 7th all time in passer rating — which QB ranks first in this stat?

For My Parlay Gurus

It would be crazy to think the Titans have a reasonable shot at beating the Cowboys, but I still think this spread is insultingly steep. Head coach Mike Vrabel has time and time again displayed an ability to keep Tennessee competitive, despite lacking elite talent at skill positions. I like the Titans to keep this one relatively close 👇

  • Titans +12.5 vs. Cowboys: -110

  • Over 39.5 Total Points Scored: -110
