Kentucky vs. Tennessee Preview

With five teams currently in the AP Top 25, including two in the top four, the SEC has a rock solid case as the nation’s best basketball conference this season 😤

The two squads checking in at second and third in the conference standings, Kentucky and Tennessee, are set to face off tonight at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Here’s how the lines are looking ahead of the conference clash šŸ‘‡

  • Spread: Tennessee -1

  • Moneyline: Tennessee -115 (bet $115, win $100), Kentucky -105

  • Over/Under: 140.5

Can The Volunteers Get Revenge?

With just a one point spread separating the two teams, oddsmakers are expecting this one to come down to the wire. The season’s first iteration of the rivalry, however, was anything but competitive 😬

  • Exactly a month ago, Kentucky torched Tennessee in Lexington, scoring a season-high 107 points en route to a 28-point victory. It was the Volunteers’ worst loss since 2018

  • The Wildcats topped 50 points in each half — TyTy Washington, a projected lottery pick, led all scorers with 28 points

Unfortunately for Kentucky, it remains to be seen if Washington will be available for tonight’s rematch — he is currently questionable due to a leg injury he picked up against Florida this weekend

  • If the star point guard is forced to miss the game, expect Oscar Tshiebwe to pick up more of the scoring load. The current Wooden Award favorite (+275) was held to nine points in the first matchup, but he’s putting up historical performances and averaging an absurd 17.1 points and 16.4 boards per game over his last seven games

  • Meanwhile, Tennessee prefers a more balanced approach. Seven different players have led the Volunteers in scoring in a game this season, and their leading scorer (Santiago Vescovi at 13.6 PPG) ranks just 11th in the SEC

The Volunteers have been on a roll since the embarrassing loss at Kentucky, going 7-1 with the lone blemish being a one-point defeat at Texas. The Wildcats are on a heater of their own though, having rattled off six straight wins. Sounds like a recipe for one heck of a game tonight šŸ”„

Big East Brawl

While Kentucky and Tennessee duke it out to stay in the SEC race, the top two teams in the Big East will square off for the first time this season, when Villanova travels to face Providence. Take a look at the lines šŸ‘‡

  • Spread: Villanova -4

  • Moneyline: Villanova -190, Providence +155

  • Over/Under: 130.5

This matchup pits the conference’s preseason favorite, Villanova, against its current leader and one of the biggest surprises in the nation in Providence

  • The Friars just keep defying expectations; picked seventh in the Big East preseason poll, they’re now in the midst of their second eight-game win streak of the year. Ed Cooley is looking like a lock for Coach of the Year šŸ”’

  • Villanova may not be running away with the Big East as expected, but they still look like one of the best teams in the country. The Wildcats are deep and experienced, with six players averaging at least nine PPG

Providence has done more than enough to prove themselves this season, but it’s hard not to look at their first meeting with Jay Wright and Villanova as a true test of their ceiling šŸ§

For My Parlay Gurus

It feels wrong going with a pair of road teams in a college basketball parlay, but that’s exactly what I’m doing. While I expect Tennessee to keep this one much closer, I’m going with Kentucky to come out on top, and I don’t think Villanova is going to give up the Big East this season without a fight. Take a peek šŸ‘‡

  • Kentucky +1 vs. Tennessee: -110

  • Villanova -4 vs. Providence: -110

$100 on this bet would net $264 — if we hit, make sure to email [email protected] for $100*. First come, first serve šŸ˜‰

Trivia question: Tennessee’s head coach during their 2010 Elite Eight run was none other than current Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl. He was fired from Tennessee in 2011 due to an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations, before being hired at Auburn in 2014
