Over the past month, the Yankees have completely turned their season around

Rewind to August 1st and the Yankees were:

  • 2.5 games back of the second Wild Card spot

  • Had a 41% chance of making the playoffs

  • 5% chance of winning the AL East

  • +2000 to win the World Series

Then, The Bronx Bombers ripped off wins in 21 of 25 games between August 1 and August 27, including a 13 game win streak 🤑

August Stats

On August 22nd, the Yankees’s odds of making the playoffs were all the way down to -700, and at +1000 to win the World Series

By the 25th, the Yankees had lifted themselves into the first wild card spot and gained a couple of games on the division leading Rays, which:

  • Boosted their chances of making the playoffs to 93%

  • Increased their likelihood of winning the division from 5% to 22%

  • Jacked their World Series odds from +2000 to +700, their best odds since May

However, since the end of the winning streak, New York had lost four straight games before a win on Wednesday night and have started to look more like the struggling club they’d been for much of the season

Their chances of making the playoffs remain unchanged, but as their slide has coincided with a couple of Rays wins, their chances of winning the division have fallen from 22% down to 4%

Home Stretch

But, there’s still hope. The Yankees will close the season with one of the easiest remaining schedules in baseball. In their final 30 games, check out the schedule comparison between New York and their top competitors:

  • Yankees: 3rd-easiest remaining schedule

  • A’s: 6th-toughest

  • Rays: 10th-toughest

  • Red Sox: 14th-toughest

If you bet on the Yankees to make the playoffs before the start of August, you can pretty much start counting your winnings now. If you didn’t, a bet at -1600 (bet $1600, win $100) might sound scary risk wise, but given their remaining schedule, it might be worth it
