The NBA’s Sleeping Giant
With all the hype surrounding the Warriors and Suns as the top-two teams in the West, it’s easy to overlook just how dominant the Jazz have been this season 👇
Their net rating (+11.1) is the best in the NBA, and just 0.2 worse than last season, when they finished with the best record in the NBA
They’re the only team with a top five offense (1st) and defense (5th)
They trail the NBA-best Warriors (29-7) by just 2.5 games
Still, their early playoff exits hang over them like a dark cloud, and at least a half-dozen other teams have legitimate championship aspirations
Despite making the playoffs in each of the past five seasons, they’ve yet to advance past the conference semis, and have been bounced in the first round twice
After taking a 2-0 lead on the Clippers last year, they lost four straight even with Kawhi Leonard’s season-ending injury in Game 4
While the Jazz have fallen short of fulfilling playoff expectations built upon regular season successes, there are reasons to believe that this year could be different 📈
Trivia question: how many times have the Jazz been to the NBA finals in their 48-year-old franchise? (answer below)

The Stifle Tower’s Career-Year
The Jazz are a deep team at basically every position, but Rudy Gobert (three-time DPOY) is having his most statistically dominant season yet 💪
Gobert leads the league in rebounding with a career-high 15.1 RPG
He’s scoring more than ever at 15.5 PPG
He leads the NBA in offensive AND defensive win shares due to his arguably unmatched two-way impact 🤯
If the Warriors’ top-ranked defense takes a dive, he’ll win his fourth DPOY in five years…he currently only trails Draymond Green
Draymond Green, ‘17 winner: -115 (bet $115, win $100)
Rudy Gobert, won in ‘18/’19/’21: +300 (bet $100, win $300)
Giannis Antetokounmpo, ‘20 winner: +1000
Mikal Bridges: +2500

Leveled-Up Offense
Now, let’s talk offense. Donovan Mitchell is playing the best ball of his career, helping take Utah’s league-leading offense to new heights 🕷
He’s 7th in the league in scoring on a career-high efficiency rate
In a dozen December games, Mitchell averaged 30.2 PPG, earning the first Player of the Month award of his career
After Spida, the Jazz have another three legitimately dangerous offensive weapons 💦
Mike Conley’s coming off his first career All-Star appearance and is shooting a career-high 42.9% from deep
Bojan Bogdanovic is averaging a career-best 17.8 PPG
Reigning 6MOTY Jordan Clarkson’s isn’t shooting the ball as well, but provides a spark and versatility off the bench
The Jazz are as talented, one-through-eight, as anyone else — but the question still remains whether or not they can put it all together in the playoffs

For My Parlay Gurus
Tonight at 10PM EST, the Jazz take on the Nuggets in Denver for a rematch of their epic seven-game showdown in the 2020 NBA Bubble
This time, the Nuggets will be without their second and third-most dynamic scorers in Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr and are missing valuable role players Jeff Green and Monte Morris
But with Nikola Jokic having one of the all-time greatest statistical seasons in NBA history, anything is possible for the Nuggets when he’s on the court. Still, I’m banking on Utah’s depth prevailing against Denver’s depleted roster in a high-scoring game
Utah -5 @ Denver: -110
Over 223.5 total points: -110
$100 on this bet would win you $264 — if we hit, make sure to email [email protected] for $100**. First come, first serve 😉
Trivia answer: The Jazz made the Finals in back-to-back years (1997 and ‘98), but lost to Michael Jordan’s Bulls both times
