76ers @ Timberwolves Preview

After Daryl Morey’s dream of bringing James Harden to the Sixers became a reality, Philadelphia fans will finally get to see an All-Star PG suit up for their team this season. Although the 76ers will be on the road in Minnesota, fans of the club will surely be tuning in to see how Harden looks alongside their beloved big man, Joel Embiid ✌️

  • Spread: 76ers -2.5

  • Moneyline: 76ers -135 (bet $135, win $100), Timberwolves +115 (bet $100, win $115)

  • Over/Under: 228

With Harden giving the Sixers some new life, and the T-Wolves on the second night of a back-to-back, it makes sense to see Philly favored. But, don’t count out Minnesota, who have surprised us all this season and are looking for their first playoff appearance since 2018, and just their second since 2004 😤

The Sixers’ New Look

With Harden in town, the Sixers finally have a legitimate second star to pair with Embiid. Still, they gave up quite a bit to get him, resulting in a completely new rotation. Here’s what the Sixers’ depth will probably look like tonight 👇

  • Guard: James Harden

  • Guard: Tyrese Maxey

  • Forward: Tobias Harris

  • Forward: Matisse Thybulle

  • Center: Joel Embiid

  • Bench: Furkan Korkmaz, Georges Niang, Danny Green, Shake Milton, Paul Millsap

While it’s impossible to know how all the pieces will fit together, having yet to see them play a single minute, the sheer amount of offensive and defensive talent the Sixers can throw at opponents is impressive

  • The Embiid/Harden duo might be the most gifted offensive tandem in the league, and the wing rotation of Thybulle/Harris/Green provides great defensive versatility

  • Plus, just last week Embiid had the fifth best DPOY odds at +2000

Still, the Sixers gave up Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and future picks to acquire Harden, cutting into their current depth, as well as their future potential to build around Embiid. By pushing their chips into the middle of the table, the Sixers have given themselves a better chance to win a title now, but their future is up in the air 🌬

What Does Vegas Think?

Trades are fun for everyone. Fans, players, teams, the media…literally all sports enthusiasts. But let’s not forget, we’re here to bet, and Vegas loves Harden’s fit in Philadelphia 🤑

  • Before the trade, the Sixers were +850 to win a title

  • Now, they’re +700 to win it all

Here’s how they stack up against the league’s other top contenders 👇

2021-22 NBA Championship Odds (subject to change)

  1. Suns: +380

  2. Nets & Warriors: +450

  3. Sixers: +700

  4. Bucks: +750

  5. Heat: +1000

  6. Jazz: +1700

Embiid’s insane play over his past 14 games has really boosted his MVP odds. Over the last few weeks, Joel has five games with 40+ pts, 12 double-doubles and a triple-double. Now leading the NBA in scoring (29.6), Embiid’s jumped all other contenders in MVP odds 👇

  • Joel Embiid: +130

  • Nikola Jokic: +290

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo: +400

  • Stephen Curry: +850

  • Ja Morant: +1100

Playing next to Harden, Embiid shouldn’t have to do as much of the heavy lifting, so his stats could take a hit in coming weeks. But if the team is much better than they were before, he could cruise to the first MVP award of his career 🏆

Trivia question: Who was the last Philadelphia 76er to win MVP? (answer below)

For My Parlay Gurus

With the Sixers gassed up to show off their new star tandem, and the T-Wolves having just played last night, I’m riding the good vibes towards a Philly dub. Pair that with a refreshed LAL team ready to take care of their rivals, and you’ve got yourself a parlay 👇

  • Sixers -2.5 @ Wolves: -105

  • Lakers -1 vs. Clippers: -105

$100 on this bet would win $281 — if we hit, make sure to email [email protected] for $100*. First come, first serve 😉

Trivia answer: The last Sixer to win MVP was Allen Iverson in 2001, a year in which he carried their offense to the Finals and handed the Lakers a Game 1 overtime loss (the only game the Lakers lost that postseason), before losing the series in five games
