Stanley Cup Playoff Update

The second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues tonight, with half the remaining field set to face off in Game 2 of their respective series. And if you weren’t already convinced playoff hockey has it all, then look no further than the drastically different, but equally exciting series openers we got on Wednesday night 😜

  • A low-scoring Game 1 between the Hurricanes and Rangers ended in heartbreak for New York, who fell 2-1 in overtime after leading for a majority of the game

  • Meanwhile up in Alberta, the Oilers and Flames combined for 15 goals as Calgary came out on top at home, 9-6. More on both these series soon 👀

Among the four teams lacing up their skates tonight are some of the top contenders for the Stanley Cup. But it's the Colorado Avalanche, who lost Game 2 at home last night, who remain the heavy betting favorite (+195) to win their first Cup in over 20 years 🏆

Trivia Question: Of the four teams playing tonight (Rangers, Hurricanes, Oilers, Flames), which one most recently won a Stanley Cup? (answer below)

Rangers vs. Hurricanes Preview

The first puck drop of the night will be in Carolina, where the Hurricanes will look to defend PNC Arena a bit more convincingly than their last time out. Check out how the lines are shaping up ahead of a crucial Game 2 👇

  • Spread: Hurricanes -1.5

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes -172 (bet $172, win $100), Rangers +142 (bet $100, win $142)

  • O/U: 5.5

The Hurricanes may have managed to keep this year’s perfect home playoff record intact with their win in the opener, but it was the lower-seeded Rangers who looked like the better team on the ice for most of the game 🗽

  • Filip Chytil found the back of the net for New York seven minutes into the game, and that 1-0 score stood until Sebastian Aho tied it up with under three minutes to play

  • A shot from Ian Cole ricocheted off the stick of a Rangers’ defenseman and into the net in OT to give the Canes the victory — just watch the crowd go nuts 😎

Those fans have helped make PNC Arena one of the toughest places to play in the NHL, and Carolina is now 5-0 in the building during these playoffs

  • That may make Wednesday night’s loss sting even more for the Rangers; Carolina secured the division title and home ice advantage with a win at New York in the last week of the regular season 😬

The silver lining for the Rangers remains goalie Igor Shesterkin, who had an up-and-down series against Pittsburgh relative to his lofty standards, but showed flashes of how dominant he can be in Game 1

With a pair of standout goalkeepers in net (here's the proof), don’t be shocked if we have another low-scoring affair tonight ⚔️

Oilers vs. Flames Preview

Defense and goalkeeping was the story in the other series, but in the Battle for Alberta? Not so much. Check out the lines for tonight’s encore to Game 1’s scoring fest 👇

  • Spread: Flames -1.5

  • Moneyline: Flames -178, Oilers +146

  • O/U: 6.5

It’s been over 30 years since we were last treated to a Battle for Alberta playoff series, so perhaps the neighboring rivals were just making up for lost time with all the goals on Wednesday night 😂

  • It was the highest scoring playoff game since 1993, when Los Angeles beat Calgary by the same score

  • The Flames scored two goals in the first minute and never looked back. All said and done, 11 different players found the back of the net, with Calgary’s Matthew Tkachuk leading all scorers with a hat trick

While it may not have been expected to this extent, it shouldn't come as a surprise that scoring was abundant in Game 1, given that these are two of the most potent offenses in the league 🗣

  • The Flames are one of just six teams in the NHL to finish the regular season with over 290 goals, and their differential of +85 ranks second in the league

  • The Oilers ranked top 10 in scoring during the regular season, but they’ve taken it to another level in the playoffs, where they currently lead all teams

  • They also have a man by the name of Connor McDavid, the league leader in both regular reason and postseason points who just posted his fourth straight multi-point game 🔥

Right behind McDavid in the points race this year was Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau, who didn't score last game, but racked up three assists. The head-to-head showdown between these two offensive stars is the matchup I’ll have my eye on 👀

For My Parlay Gurus

These two series couldn't have looked any different in their openers on Wednesday night, and I'm expecting more of the same this time around. I'm going with another defensive battle in Carolina, and banking on McDavid to continue to show out for Edmonton. Check it out 👇

  • Hurricanes vs. Rangers Under 5.5 Goals: -118

  • Connor McDavid Over 1.5 Points: -130

$100 on this bet would win you $227 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
