It's A Baseball Weekend

You guys all have fun watching the NBA Draft? If you missed it, peep the full board here. The Knicks went crazy, still trying to figure that one out, and shoutout to OTE's very own Dominick Barlow and Jean Montero, who signed two-way deals with the Spurs and Knicks late last night šŸ™Œ. Heading into the weekend, we have trophy-worthy games in Omaha, heavyweight MLB match-ups and a potential Stanley Cup winner šŸ‘‡

  • Ole Miss is headed to their first-ever College World Series Final, as Dylan DeLucia pitched a shutout over nine innings to beat Arkansas 2-0 yesterday

  • The Rebels will take on the Oklahoma Sooners in a best-of-three series for a shot at the title, with the first game taking place this Saturday at 7PM EST. The OU women's softball team has also won back-to-back titles

  • Even though the Sooners have been to the CWS 10 times in program history, they haven't won since 1994 šŸ‘€

  • Moneyline: Ole Miss -125 (bet $125, win $100), Oklahoma +105 (bet $100, win $105)

There's also a couple worthwhile MLB match-ups to pay attention to tonight, specifically the red-hot Yankees taking on the Astros (watch Aaron Judge's walk-off single last night). In addition, the Braves host the Dodgers in a NLCS rematch šŸ‘‡

  • Spread: Yankees -1.5

  • ML: Yankees -130, Astros +110

  • O/U: 8 Total Runs

  • Spread: Dodgers -1.5

  • ML: Dodgers -135, Braves +114

  • O/U: 9.5 Total Runs

Three-Peat Done?

Colorado has been the best team in hockey this year and look to close out Tampa Bay on home ice. Heading into Game 5, the Avalanche hold a commanding 3-1 series lead after winning Game 4 on a controversial OT goal from Nazem Kadri šŸ’

  • Lightning fans are up-in-arms because Kadri scored his game-winning goal while Colorado had an extra man on the ice in Valeri Nichushkin, who is shown getting over to the bench right before the play materialized šŸ˜¬

  • Jon Cooper, Tampa Bay's coach, was not pleased with the way things played out ā€” but it's worth noting the Lightning capitalized on a similar situation last playoffs against the Islanders

Regardless, Colorado is now poised to clinch their first Stanley Cup since 2001, and a win would mark the franchise's third championship. Now, let's take a look at some interesting lines for Game 5 šŸ‘‡

  • Nathan MacKinnon (CO): +142

  • Mikko Rantanen (CO): +152

  • Steven Stamkos (TB): +160

  • Nikita Kucherov (TB): +160

  • Spread: Avalanche -1.5

  • ML: Avalanche -176, Lightning +146

  • O/U: 6 Total Goals

Trivia Question: What other NHL teams have won at least three consecutive Stanley Cups? Hint ā€” two of these teams are not based in the US (answer below)

Not The NFL

The last time the United States Football League (USFL) operated was back in the 1980s for a brief three-season run. The USFL was revived (although it's not officially affiliated with the original league from the 80s) in April 2022, and now, four teams have made it through the regular season to earn a chance at postseason glory šŸ”„

  • The Birmingham Stallions and New Jersey Generals enter the playoffs as the clear-cut favorites and will take on the New Orleans Breakers and Philadelphia Stars, respectively

  • Victor Bolden Jr. (Birmingham) and Jonathan Adams (New Orleans) are both WR prospects that are worth keeping tabs on for future NFL opportunities šŸ‘

For My Parlay Gurus

I think there will be an offensive explosion in Atlanta, so I'm taking the over on the hefty 9.5 total run figure in tonight's Dodgers vs. Braves matchup. Meanwhile, after a brutal Game 4 loss, it seems like the Lightning have hit that point that all champs reach...exhaustion. I'm banking on the Avalanche closing this one out on their home floor. Check it out šŸ‘‡

  • Dodgers vs. Braves Over 9.5 Total Runs: -106

  • Avalanche ML vs. Lightning: -176

$100 on this bet would win you $205 ā€” if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win šŸ˜‰

Trivia Answer: The Toronto Maple Leafs won three-in-a-row twice, from 1947-49 and then again from 1962-64. The Montreal Canadiens won five straight Cups from 1956-60, the longest championship streak in NHL history, and then put together a four-peat from 1976-79.
