It's Storming In The Desert
The WNBA playoffs are here, and the Seattle Storm made a statement in the opening game of this much-anticipated second round series, stealing a win vs. the Aces. Las Vegas is known for their dynamic scoring duo of Kelsey Plum and A'ja Wilson, but it was the Storm's pair of former No. 1 picks who went off in Game 1 👇
The Storm built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and fought to stave off the Aces all game
Sue Bird orchestrated the offense, racking up 12 assists and zero turnovers
Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd combined for 50 points, and Loyd iced the game with this nasty jumper in the fourth quarter 🥶

On the other side, Las Vegas appeared disjointed from the start. A'ja Wilson, who struggled in Game 1 (8 pts in 38 min), will need to regain her MVP-level form in order to secure a much-needed win. Any way you slice it, this series promises to be a memorable one 🍿

The Last Dance
Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd may be the dominant scorers for Seattle, but it's clear that their eldest player is still the true leader in the clubhouse. Sue Bird carrying the Storm to the finals in her 21st and final season would be nothing short of a storybook ending 🔮
Bird's 12 assists in Game 1 were exactly the amount needed to become the WNBA career playoff assist leader 🐐
In the Storm's Game 1 victory over the Aces, Sue Bird reached 342 career assists in the playoffs, the most in WNBA history.
Bird had 12 assists and zero turnovers, tying Diana Taurasi and Cynthia Cooper for the most assists without a turnover in a playoff game.

Bird is a much stronger playmaker than scoring threat at this point in her career, and she's ceded much of the on-ball creation opportunities to Loyd
The Gold Mamba has taken her game to the next level, averaging over 20 PPG in this playoff run 🐍
Meanwhile, center Tina Charles is controlling the paint while Stewart is busy making defenders look silly per usual 😳
Breanna Stewart is cash with the SMOOTH fadeaway ✨

The Storm can hit you from all angles, and they did just that in Game 1 against Las Vegas. To go up 2-0 in the Semifinals would be huge, so expect Seattle to keep their foot on the gas 💨
Trivia Question: Who was the WNBA playoff assist leader before Sue Bird took the crown last game? (answer below)

Bounce Back?
Wilson has been Las Vegas' engine and a top MVP candidate all year, but she looked out of sorts in the Aces' Game 1 loss. She couldn't find her rhythm shooting the ball, and tied a season-low with eight points 👎
Of course, Wilson's value goes far beyond scoring — in fact, she was recently announced as the Defensive Player of the Year

The biggest question surrounding Wilson is, can she out-duel another superstar like Stewart? The best part, however, is that she doesn't need to lead the Aces in scoring every night, as Kelsey Plum is more than capable of carrying the load
Plum drained a ridiculous 3.1 three-pointers per game this season, shooting at a blistering 42.0% rate
This combination of volume and efficiency makes her likely the most dangerous shooter in the league, which is exactly the help Wilson needs 🤝

For My Parlay Gurus
I think this series goes all the way, and there's little chance of that happening if the Aces drop both at home. So, I'm going with Las Vegas responding in Game 2, and I think Kelsey Plum steps up for the Aces tonight with a high-scoring performance. Take a look 👇
Aces -5.5 vs. Storm: -120
Kelsey Plum over 21.5 points: -108
