Gonzaga Is Now +600 To Win NCAA Title After A Dominant Opening Week

It's been just one week since the college basketball season tipped off and there's already movement amongst Final Four contenders 🍿 (3 minute read)

Travis Kelce got his swagger back! But today we’re talking college hoops 🏀

NCAA Basketball Favorites

If you’re a big believer in Drew Timme, Chet Holmgren, and the Gonzaga Bulldogs’ title chances this year, the time to buy in is now. The reigning national runner-up entered the season as the March Madness favorite (+700), but after just one week of action that line has already shifted

  • Gonzaga (3-0): +600

  • Michigan (2-0): +1200

  • UCLA (3-0): +1200

  • Texas (1-1): +1400

  • Duke (3-0): +1400

  • Kansas (2-0): +1400

  • Villanova (1-1): +1400

  • Purdue (2-0): +1500

  • Kentucky (1-1): +1600

  • Memphis (2-0): +1800

Can They Finally Cut The Net?

Over the past two decades, Mark Few has cemented Gonzaga as one of the most dominant basketball programs in the nation

  • They’ve reached the NCAA tournament in every year since 1999 (21 consecutive appearances)

  • They’ve been ranked every week since the start of the 2016–17 season, the longest active streak in the nation

  • Since 2017, they’ve had three Elite Eight appearances and two trips to the championship game

Despite that pedigree, a national title has alluded the Bulldogs. But this could be the year that changes

  • Timme entered the season as the heavy Wooden Award favorite (+450), and his play thus far has done nothing to change that

  • Holmgren has been a stat-sheet stuffer and could hear his name called first in the next NBA draft (+105)

  • Gonzaga took down #5 Texas with ease on Saturday, winning 86-74 after leading by 20 at half. Timme led the way with 37 points, shooting 15/19 from the field

Circle next Tuesday’s matchup against #2 UCLA on your calendar. The rematch of last year’s thrilling Final Four overtime showdown will be must-watch TV, and if the Zags notch another convincing win, their +600 title odds will likely shift even more

Trivia question: Can you name the nine active NBA players who played at Gonzaga? (answer below)

Contenders In Action Tonight

Some of Gonzaga’s stiffest competition for the title will be in action tonight, and two teams in particular with championship aspirations will face tough early season challenges

⚡️ Seton Hall @ #4 Michigan

  • Spread: Michigan -11

  • Don’t let the double-digit line fool you, Seton Hall is dangerous. They’ve won both of their games this season by at least 35 points, while holding both opponents to under 50 points

  • Michigan, the preseason Big 10 favorite (+275), is 1-1 against the spread (ATS) this season after failing to cover in their opener against Buffalo

Escaping Ann Arbor with a victory will be tough, but the Pirates’ size could give the Wolverines trouble and keep this one close

🐯 Saint Louis @ #11 Memphis

  • Spread: Memphis -11.5

  • Another double-digit spread, but Saint Louis has also gotten off to a hot start this year, winning their first three games by a combined 150 points

  • Featuring a pair of future lottery picks in Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren, Memphis, the heavy preseason AAC favorite (+150) has been expectedly dominant as well

Saint Louis has looked impressive against weaker opponents, but they’ll be hard pressed to keep up with the athleticism of Memphis

For My Parlay Gurus

Both Michigan and Memphis could be on upset alert tonight 👀

While I expect the Tigers to take care of business, the Wolverines might have their hands full. I can’t bring myself go all-in on the Seton Hall upset, but I like them to keep it close in this parlay👇

  • Memphis -11.5: -110

  • Seton Hall +11: -110

Throwing $100 on this would payout $264. If this hits, make sure to email [email protected] for $100. First come, first serve 😉

Trivia answer: Domantis Sabonis, Brandon Clarke, Zach Collins, Rui Hachimura, Corey Kispert, Kelly Olynyk, Kevin Pangos, Jalen Suggs and Killian Tillie
