Down Goes No. 2
We’re officially done with the opening round of the first French Open without Rafa Nadal in 19 years. Favorites Djokovic and Alcaraz both advanced easily, but 23 year old qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild was the story of the day. Ranked just 172nd in the world, he came back from down two sets to one to take out No. 2 Daniil Medvedev, who entered the tournament with the most tour wins this season 👏
Twists and turns 🎢
Qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild makes an emphatic entrance to his first #RolandGarros main draw appearance, knocking out No.2 seed Medvedev 7-6(5), 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Entering the French Open, Medvedev had the fourth best odds (+800) to win the whole thing, but with Djokovic and Alcaraz on the same side of the bracket, the Russian was thought of as a lock to at least reach the finals. Medvedev lost the crowd, and Seyboth Wild seized the moment 🎥

Outside of Medvedev, the only other upset worth touching on was 36 year old Fabio Fognini taking down No. 10 Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Fognini was ranked in the Top-10 just four years ago, but has dropped down to 130 since then. Bad loss for Felix (says he was injured), who has loads of potential at just 22 years old, but seems to lose matches he should win in many of the major tournaments 😏
Upset alert 🚨
