Oh What A Night

Anticipation for the Stanley Cup Playoffs is always high, especially this season, given the plethora of Cup contenders. So far, the action has been as good as advertised ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Donโ€™t just take my word for it; look how evenly matched almost all of the first round series have been. Half of them are resuming action tonight, with all four of the series knotted at two games apiece. Check out the full slate of crucial Game 5s ๐Ÿ‘‡

  • 7PM ET: Bruins @ Hurricanes

  • 7:30PM ET: Lightning @ Maple Leafs

  • 9:30PM ET: Blues @ Wild

  • 10PM ET: Kings @ Oilers

A win tonight would go a long way towards securing a spot in the next round โ€” when an NHL best-of-seven series is tied 2-2, the winner of Game 5 holds an all-time series record of 219-58 (.791), including a 6-0 mark last season ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Game Spotlight: Bruins vs. Hurricanes

This eveningโ€™s lineup isnโ€™t short on intrigue, but if Iโ€™m forced to pick a game of the night, Iโ€™m going with perhaps the most cutthroat series weโ€™ve seen so far. I mean, just take a look at this hit ๐Ÿ˜…

Chippy play with Boston involved? Nothing new there, and Carolina has gladly reciprocated this series (even the goalie ๐Ÿ˜‚.). Peep how the lines are shaping up ahead of what should be a physical Game 5 in Raleigh ๐Ÿ‘‡

  • Spread: Hurricanes -1.5

  • Moneyline: Hurricanes -146 (bet $146, win $100), Bruins +122 (bet $100, win $132)

  • O/U: 5.5

Big hits may be making the headlines, but donโ€™t get it twisted, thereโ€™s still plenty of pucks finding the back of the net

  • The over has hit in each game this series, with the two teams combining for at least six goals in each matchup so far

  • His reputation for antics precedes him, but Brad Marchand continues to show out for the Bruins. The NHL leader in playoff points notched five in Bostonโ€™s Game 4 victory ๐Ÿ”ฅ

But for all the excitement on the ice, none of the games in the series have been particularly close, with the home team dominating at each turn

  • The Bruinsโ€™ Stanley Cup hopes appeared to be on life support after being outscored 10-3 in a pair of losses to open the series, but they responded by taking both games in Boston in commanding fashion

Can Carolina swing momentum back in their direction in front of their home fans tonight? Either way, I expect the showdown to be the most tightly-contested one weโ€™ve seen yet ๐Ÿคž

Trivia Question: Boston last won the Stanley Cup in 2011, and two members of the championship team still suit up for the Bruins. Can you name them? (answer below)

Quick Hits

With so much on the line tonight in these evened-up series, itโ€™d be a crime not to touch on the other games on the docket ๐Ÿ‘‡

  • Moneyline: Maple Leafs -130, Lightning +108

  • O/U: 6.5

The Lightningโ€™s road to a third consecutive Stanley Cup (which hasnโ€™t been done since the Islanders won their fourth in a row in 1983) goes through Toronto, where the Maple Leafs won 31 games this year, one of just four teams to win 30+ games at home

๐Ÿ“ Blues vs. Wild

  • Moneyline: Wild -142, Blues +118

  • O/U: 6.5

Each game in this series has been settled by at least three goals. On Sunday night, the Blues cruised to a 5-2 victory at home with pair a goals from winger David Perron, giving him five in the first round

๐Ÿ“ Kings vs. Oilers

  • Moneyline: Oilers -220, Kings +180

  • O/U: 6.5

NHL points leader and Hart trophy contender, Connor McDavid, is as consistent as they come. But, after exploding for 14 goals between Games 2 and 3, Edmonton crashed back to Earth on Sunday night in a 4-0 loss. Kings' goalie Jonathan Quick notched his 10th career postseason shutout, the most ever by a U.S.-born goalkeeper ๐Ÿ’ช
