First Super Bowl Preview πŸ†

We're just over a week away from the biggest game in sports, and with two juggernauts set to clash, oddsmakers are expecting a tight one. More to come next week, but couldn't wait 🍿 (3 min read)

A Champ Will Be Crowned

The NFL playoffs rarely go according to plan (or maybe they do, if you ask Arian Foster πŸ‘€). But after three weeks of the usual array of upsets, comebacks, and season-sealing plays, in the end we have a Super Bowl matchup many saw coming all along πŸ†

  • For the first time since 2017, the two regular season conference champs are meeting with the Lombardi Trophy on the line

  • Representing the AFC is the 14-3 Kansas City Chiefs, fresh off their fifth straight conference championship appearance, and a thrilling last-second win over Cincinnati that had Travis Kelce breaking out receipts 😎

  • On the other side, the NFC champion is the 14-3 Philadelphia Eagles, who have taken their dominance to another level in the postseason by outscoring their two opponents, the Giants and 49ers, 69-14 😳

No David versus Goliath matchup this year, folks. This is David against David, and oddsmakers are torn on which one to back. Since the matchup has been finalized, each team has spent time as the favorite; here’s how the lines are looking with just over a week until kickoff πŸ‘‡

Super Bowl LVII Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Eagles -1.5

  • Moneyline: Eagles -120 (bet $120, win $100), Chiefs +102 (bet $100, win $102)

  • Over/Under: 50.5

An Over/Under of 50+ points to go along with a razor-thin spread? Sounds like the recipe for one heck of a game. I'm torn myself, and while I might give a slight edge to the Eagles, this stat from Schefty has me second-guessing a bit πŸ€”

With that being said, here's a counterpoint; one of the three teams that won it all despite not wearing white was none other than the 2018 Eagles, in that same shade of green #PhillyPhilly 😏

Trivia Question: Who scored the first TD of the Super Bowl the last time the Eagles won it?

The Real MVP?

Not only does this matchup feature this season’s two best teams, but arguably its two best players as well. Both QBs have been heavily involved in MVP conversations all season long πŸ₯‡

  • This year's award will be announced next Thursday, and Patrick Mahomes has emerged as the heavy favorite (-750) to be honored for the second time in his career. Even for a guy who makes excellence look routine, this season was special, with a league-leading 5,250 passing yards, 41 passing TDs and 77.5 QBR 🀯

  • Oh, and he ain't too shabby in the playoffs either ⬇️

Tyreek Hill left town, and somehow Mahomes has gotten even better. But while he'll be an incredibly worthy MVP recipient this season, for a while that award was Jalen Hurts' to lose πŸ€”

  • The Eagles' signal-caller was the odds-on favorite as recently as Week 15, but a shoulder injury cost the third-year superstar two games, and likely any real shot at earning the league's top honor (now at +1500 odds)

  • But when Hurts played this season, the numbers were downright silly. Finishing the regular season with 3,700 passing yards and a 22-6 TD/INT ratio, 760 more yards and 13 more scores on the ground, and a 14-1 record as a starter, he just keeps proving the doubters wrong πŸ”₯

It's tough to win a Super Bowl without a great QB, and although each is dealing with their own respective injuries (Mahomes' ankle and Hurts' shoulder), you'd be hard-pressed to find a more dynamic head-to-head matchup. As you might expect, the two QBs are essentially Super Bowl MVP co-favorites, and I'm expecting both to show out on the game's biggest stage 😀

For My Parlay Gurus

The first Super Bowl matchup to pit a pair of brothers against each other on the field. The first Super Bowl matchup to feature two Black quarterbacks. There are many reasons why this year's game promises to be a great one, and I'm expecting the on-field product to live up the hype. You'll never catch me taking the under in a Super Bowl, so I'll be parlaying the over with an Eagles' win; check it out πŸ‘‡
