⚽️ England vs Netherlands Preview

For the second consecutive Euro Cup, England has managed to reach the semi-finals. Can they get past a surgical Dutch team that has looked as good as anyone else remaining in the tournament? A trip to the Euro Cup finals vs Spain is on the line 🤝 (3 min read)

England vs Netherlands Preview

Half of the Euro Cup final is set, with Spain advancing yesterday after an electric 2-1 win over France. Lamine Yamal became the youngest player to ever score in a Euro Cup semi-final, dropping in an absolute beauty to equalize around the 21st minute. This kid is still 16-years-old and is clearly the next star in the soccer world 👏

Today, England and the Netherlands will battle it out for a chance to join them in the finals. Can the Three Lions finally bring football home for the first time since winning a World Cup in 1966? Or will Memphis Depay and the rest of the Dutch contingent earn the country’s second Euro Cup title after 36 years? Time will tell in a few hours — in the meantime here’s a gnarly bicycle kick from an International friendly game played between these two countries back in 2002 🤯

Reminds me of the Bellingham bicycle that saved the English from a defeat against Slovakia in the Round of 16. But if England can’t get their offense going earlier, this Dutch squad might prove to be too much 🇳🇱

  • The Netherlands have proven to be adaptable — in three wins they have fallen behind in each one, eventually figuring out their opponent’s weak point

  • While not boasting the high-powered offensive ceiling of a Spain or France, the Dutch have scored nine goals on 20 attempts that have been on target

And while England has just won one of their last nine matchups against the Netherlands, their most well-known victory came during the group stages of the 1996 Euro Cup ⏪

There might be some discourse surrounding the non-playing aspects of this game, specifically the fact that the UEFA is bringing on Felix Zwayer, a referee who had previously confessed to taking bribes, to officiate. A relatively big game for a ref with questionable morals 🤔

  • The game in question took place in 2004 in Dortmund, where Zwayer admitted to accepting a bride from another official. Bellingham’s comments below came after a 2021 Dortmund vs Bayern game refereed by Zwayer. Dortmund would end up losing that game 3-2

  • Expect the scrutiny on the referees to be high today

While not totally under the radar, enough hasn’t been said about Cody Gakpo who has the most goals of any player left in the tournament with three 💪

  • The forward has been arguably the best player in the Euros and puts so much pressure on the box

  • In their game against Turkey, the go-ahead goal may have technically been put in by a Turkish defender, but it was all Gakpo

  • To Advance: England -134, Netherlands +110

  • Over/Under: 2.5 Total Goals (+158/-198)

  • When: 3PM EST on FOX

Trivia Question: How many times has England reached the semi-finals stage of the Euro Cup?

For My Parlay Gurus

England carries a certain kind of weight and chaos into any game they play. Despite the talent, I think this Netherlands team just fits and plays better together so I’m taking them to advance. Additionally, I can see a 2-1 finish where the Dutch potentially play from behind for a bit. Check out my parlay 👇

  • Netherlands To Advance: +110

  • Over 1.5 Total Goals Scored: -198

$100 on this bet would win you $206 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win an Overtime hoodie*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
