Gotta Be Better Than Last Week, Right? 🏈

Points might be hard to come by once again, when the Commanders and Bears face off tonight. Can either struggling offense get going? 🤔 (3 min read)

Struggling Squads Hit TNF

Let's be honest, last week's edition of Thursday Night Football featuring the Broncos and Colts was, to put it nicely, difficult to watch at times. But if you thought we were guaranteed to have a cleaner game this time around, take a look at tonight's matchup and you might think again 😬

  • This week's TNF host is the Chicago Bears, who sit at 2-3 and boast the league's most inept passing attack, with just 116.6 yards coming through the air each game (FYI, that's just seven yards more than Justin Jefferson's per-game receiving average 🤯)

  • Visiting Soldier Field will be the 1-4 Washington Commanders, the lone team in the NFC East with a losing record. Since picking up a win in their season opener, Ron Rivera's squad has been outscored by their opponents 106-62

Apologies if those endorsements weren't exactly ringing, but that's what we're working with tonight. Fingers crossed that the matchup will at least be entertaining, and if you're looking to spice it up with a little bit of action, here's how the lines are looking 👇

  • Spread: Commanders -1

  • Moneyline: Commanders -112 (bet $112, win $100) Bears -104 (bet $104, win $100)

  • Over/Under: 37.5

As you can tell from the O/U, oddsmakers aren't overly optimistic about either offense, but here are at least some potential reasons for excitement 🤞

  • For every head-scratching throw that makes you wonder how he still has a starting job, Carson Wentz offers an equally noteworthy glimpse of his talent. The first-year Commander QB still ranks fifth in the league in both passing yards and TDs, and he's played especially well against Chicago in his career

  • And while Chicago's aerial attack has been abysmal, they've been one of the league's best on the ground, ranking top-five in rushing yards per game. Washington's front line isn't as stout as it once was, and they just watched Derrick Henry rumble for over 100 yards and two TDs on Sunday

Don't get me wrong — while I'm saying there's a chance, my expectations for offensive fireworks tonight are still quite low. But hey, football is football 🤷🏻‍♂️

Trivia question: Can you name the three receivers, aside from Jefferson, currently averaging over 100 yards per game?

Prop Central

With tonight expected to be a low-scoring affair, that usually means hidden value can be found across the player prop landscape. Here are some of the more interesting lines worth checking out ⬇️

📍 Justin Fields (QB, CHI)

The Line: O/U 170.5 Passing Yards (-114)

ICYMI, Justin Fields made sports betting history a couple weeks back, and not the good kind 👇

  • Since then, the second-year quarterback has responded with his two best throwing performances of the season, including over 200 yards and a TD last week in Minnesota

With a O/U line of just 170.5 yards, oddsmakers are expecting a step back tonight, but if you're a Fields believer, it's not a high bar to hit 🤔

📍 Terry McLaurin (WR, WAS)

The Line: O/U 54.5 Receiving Yards (-113)

It's been a solid, albeit, unspectacular season so far for the man they call Scary Terry, but Washington was surely hoping for a bit more when they paid the man big bucks this offseason 💰

  • After averaging 1,030 yards per season his first three years in the league, it's clear McLaurin has the talent to break out in a big way, and with the Commanders down several key playmakers tonight, it's as good of an opportunity as any

Even if it's just another solid showing from the wideout, McLaurin's had at least 58 receiving yards in all but one game this season 😤

📍 No Touchdown Scorer

The Line: +3100

After sitting through last week's game, I just had to include this line 😂

  • It's unlikely lightning strikes twice in back-to-back weeks, but with two offenses that have seen their fair share of struggles this year, there's certainly a possibility

Chances are someone finds their way into the endzone at some point, so if you're looking for less of a lottery ticket, hammering Under 4 Total Touchdowns at -128 works as a nice alternative 🔒

For My Parlay Gurus

Carson Wentz playing in primetime just screams back-breaking interception at the most inopportune time for the Commanders, so I'm going with Chicago to find a way to come out on top at home. But I'm also banking on Scary Terry getting his. Check it out 👇

  • Bears ML vs. Commanders: -104

  • Terry McLaurin Over 54.5 Receiving Yards: -113
