College World Series Preview

Folks, we're coming to that time of the year where sports are limited, and today we're going to check-in on College Baseball. The 64-team NCAA Division I tournament is down to eight teams, with the College World Series kicking off later this week 🏆

  • Last year, Mississippi State took home the title vs. Vanderbilt, but since they failed to make this year's tournament, we'll have a new winner this time around

For those of you unfamiliar with the College World Series, here's how the final rounds of the 75-year-old tournament are structured 👇

  • All of the games are played in Omaha, Nebraska

  • The eight remaining teams are split into two double-elimination brackets

  • The winners of each bracket meet in the Finals for a best-of-three series

Entering Monday, there were two elimination games in action, with two spots left in Omaha. No. 2 Stanford held off UConn, while No. 14 Auburn sent No. 3 Oregon State home. Take look at how the final eight teams have been split up for this weekend's action 🧢

  • Bracket 1: No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 9 Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma

  • Bracket 2: No. 2 Stanford, No. 14 Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss

  • Notice anything here? Four SEC teams 😳

Right now, Texas has the best odds to win it all, but Stanford isn't far behind. With the No. 1 overall seeded Volunteers out, it's honestly anyones game

  • Texas: +420 (bet $100, win $420)

  • Arkansas: +500

  • Stanford: +550

  • Notre Dame: +550

  • Ole Miss: +650

  • Auburn: +700

  • Oklahoma: +700

  • Texas A&M: +800

Trivia Question: Which school has the most baseball national championships in its history? (answer below)

Oh, How The Mighty Have Fallen

Heading into the tournament, Tennessee was the overwhelming favorite to win it all. Now, after their loss to Notre Dame in the Knoxville super regional this past weekend, this will be the 22nd straight year in which the No. 1 overall seed won't win the national championship 😐

  • Still, Tennessee should be lauded for having an awesome season, one where they went 57-9 and 25-5 in conference play (12 games better than No. 2 Stanford), even if they came up short of a chip

Incredibly, they had the hardest-throwing pitcher in the world, college or pro, on their roster...he tops out at 105 MPH (!)

With Tennessee and UConn eliminated, just one potential first rounder remains in the tourney in Arkansas' sophomore stud, Cayden Wallace. Wallace clubbed 29 homers over his two collegiate seasons, while playing a perfect third base and outfield. Despite being a sophomore, Wallace's age makes him eligible for this year's upcoming MLB draft

  • Arkansas has quietly gone on an impressive College World Series run: any player who has spent at least three years with the Razorbacks since 2007 will have played in at least one College World Series

Here are some of the remaining top prospects (full list here) to keep an eye on throughout the tourney 👇

  • Cayden Wallace 3B, Arkansas: Ranked 17th

  • Robert Moore 2B, Arkansas: 33rd

  • Pete Hansen LHP, Texas: 37th

  • Brock Jones OF, Stanford: 40th

  • Ivan Melendez 1B, Texas: 72nd

  • Chazz Martinez LHP, Oklahoma: 74th

  • TJ McCants OF, Ole Miss: 75th

  • Jake Bennett LHP, Oklahoma: 77th

  • Peyton Graham SS, Oklahoma: 83rd

  • Jimmy Crooks C, Oklahoma: 89th

I know this seems like a lot of players to name, but remember, the MLB draft has 20 rounds, resulting in over 500 players selected each year. So scouting departments go really deep into their bag 📋

For My Parlay Gurus

While the most exciting baseball games aren't kicking off in Omaha till later this week, we need a parlay for today. The Angels and Dodgers open up their series at Dodger Stadium, with Noah Syndergaard taking on Tony Gonsolin, while Gerrit Cole faces his recent teammate in Corey Kluber. I've got the star-studded LA offenses slugging their way to the the over, while the Yankees and Rays duke it out in a pitchers' duel 👇

  • Angels vs. Dodgers OVER 8.5 runs: -115

  • Yankees vs. Rays UNDER 8 runs: -104

$100 on this bet would win you $267 — if we hit, make sure you email justin.schnell@itsovertime.com for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
