The Celtics Have Won Four Straight Games Vs. The Nets

Boston vs. Brooklyn has become one of the league’s more intriguing rivalries in recent years, and the Celtics have had BK's number this season. Does that continue tonight in a HUGE Game 2? 🍀 (4 min read)

Celtics vs. Nets Preview

Our first taste of 2022 NBA playoff action has already provided its fair share of thrills, but few matchups compare to what we got from Game 1 of the Boston Celtics against the Brooklyn Nets 😎

  • After a back-and-forth first half that featured 17 lead changes, Boston jumped out to a double-digit advantage in the third quarter, before Brooklyn stormed back in the fourth

  • A Kyrie three with 45 seconds left broke a 111-111 tie, but a Jaylen Brown bucket and one of the smoother buzzer-beater finishes you’ll ever see from Jayson Tatum gave Boston the dub

I'm hoping tonight’s encore can live up to the series opener, take a look at the lines ahead of Game 2 in Boston 👇

  • Spread: Celtics -4

  • Moneyline: Celtics -176 (bet $176, win $100), Nets +148 (bet $100, win $148)

  • Over/Under: 226

The Nets won't just be looking to avenge Sunday's defeat — since taking the first matchup of the season against the Celtics, they've lost four straight showdowns against the boys in green ☘️

Storylines To Watch

From the moment the second-seeded Celtics drew the Nets as their opening opponent, the series was pegged by many as one of the most anticipated first round matchups in NBA history

  • From the 2013 blockbuster deal ft. KG and Paul Pierce that became one of the most impactful NBA trades ever, to Kyrie’s free agency decision in 2019, these two teams have been as intertwined as any over the last decade

  • For all of Kyrie’s insistence that he’s moved on, something tells me there still may be some bad blood ($50k worth) between the Nets’ star guard and Beantown 😅

But while boos may continue to rain down from the TD Garden bleachers, Boston fans at least have to reluctantly admit — the dude can straight up ball

  • On a rare off night from KD, who hit just nine of his 24 shots from the field, Kyrie picked up the slack in Game 1 with an efficient 39 points that featured six makes from deep, along with six assists and five boards 🔥

What makes that standout performance even more impressive is that he did it against the NBA’s newest Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, who will surely be out for redemption tonight

  • Smart is the first guard to win the award since Gary Payton in 1996. He's a longtime standout on that end of the court, but was hardly in the conversation until a late season surge — just check out the return for this bettor who cashed on a mid-season wager 🤑

A signature defensive performance by Smart tonight would certainly go a long way, but in my opinion, the key to success isn’t him, or either member of the dynamic Tatum-Brown duo. It’s big man Al Horford

  • The veteran center was getting disrespected before the series even began, but on Sunday Al became just the 13th player in NBA history to record a 20-point, 15-rebound playoff game at 35 years old

The loss of Robert Williams for the series is still a huge blow to the Celtics, but another performance like that by Horford, and Boston could be on their way to a 2-0 lead 😎

Trivia question: Prior to Marcus Smart, who was the last Celtic to win NBA DPOY? (answer below)

More Action In The East

While many are under the impression that the victor of Celtics-Nets will go on to win the East (they both have top-five title odds after all), a few other teams may have something to say about that. Here are the other Eastern Conference contenders suiting up tonight 👇

📍 76ers vs. Raptors (76ers lead 2-0)

  • Spread: 76ers -2

  • Moneyline: 76ers -138, Raptors +118

  • Over/Under: 216.5

It was smooth sailing for the Sixers in two games at home, but perhaps even more promising for Philly’s title hopes is Tyrese Maxey’s breakout campaign hitting the next level

  • Already a Most Improved Player contender, the sophomore guard has put up 30.5 PPG over the two matchups, shooting a blistering 69% from the field 🔥

📍 Bulls vs. Bucks (Bucks lead 1-0)

  • Spread: Bucks -10

  • Moneyline: Bucks -510, Bulls +390

  • Over/Under: 224.5

Game 1 between these two squads was a sloppy one, as the victorious Bucks failed to top the century mark for the first time since January. Milwaukee turned the ball over 21 times, while Chicago shot just 32% from the field 🤢. Expect both teams to clean it up on the offensive end tonight

For My Parlay Gurus

Call it a hunch, but something tells me KD isn't going to have two off nights in a row. I'm banking on both him and Kyrie having big performances as they even the series up, and I'm going with Sixers on the road as well. Take a look 👇

  • Nets ML vs. Celtics: +148

  • 76ers -2 vs. Raptors: -112

$100 on this bet would win you $369 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉

Trivia Answer: NBA legend and one of the most tenacious defenders ever, Kevin Garnett, won the award in 2008, the same year he led the Celtics to an NBA title. He is one of five NBA players to have won both DPOY and MVP in their career
