NBA Playoff Check-In

It's Friday, which means we have another slate of crucial postseason games - but before diving into those match-ups, here's a breakdown of the past couple nights in the association šŸ‘‡

  • Milwaukee stole Game 5 in Boston after erasing a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit to take a 3-2 series lead

  • Memphis steamrolled Golden State, winning by nearly 40 pts, despite losing Ja Morant to a bone bruise in his right knee in the game prior

  • Miami sent the Sixers home in Philly after a strong second half, outscoring the Sixers 50-42

  • The Mavs destroyed the Suns, sending the series back to Phoenix for what will be an epic Game 7

Personally, I think the Bucks and Warriors will be able to take care of business on their home courts, but choosing the Celtics to extend the series to a Game 7 wouldn't be a bad decision. Here's a look at tonight's schedule on ESPN šŸ‘‡

  • Celtics @ Bucks at 7:30PM EST

  • Grizzlies @ Warriors at 10PM EST

Celtics @ Bucks Preview

It's hard not to buy into the idea of Milwaukee's championship DNA after Wednesday's comeback, in which Boston had its largest blown lead in the final period of a playoff game over the last 25 postseasons 😳

  • Milwaukee dominated on the glass — finishing with a 49-36 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards to Boston's 5

  • This advantage reared its head when Bobby Portis, who finished the night with 14 pts and 15 reb, put back a Giannis missed free throw to take a 108-107 lead with 11.4 sec remaining

  • The Bucks have only dropped two games at home this postseason, which bodes well for what should be a highly-competitive Game 6

Despite the loss, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown combined for 60 pts and will have to maintain their high-level scoring if the Celtics want to pull off the upset. Here are Tatum's road averages this postseason šŸ‘‡

  • 27.0 PPG

  • 5.5 RPG

  • 4.8 APG

  • 1.8 SPG

To put these numbers in context, Tatum is averaging 24.8 PPG against the Bucks for the series, but has now put up 30+ in back-to-back games

  • Spread: Bucks -1.5

  • Moneyline: Bucks -118 (bet $118 to win $100), Celtics +100 (bet $100 to win $100)

  • O/U: 211.5

Trivia Question: After last night's win, Jimmy Butler became the 2nd Heat player to notch 4 straight 30-point playoff games. Who is the other? (answer below)

Grizzlies @ Warriors Preview

Memphis returns to Chase Center, where they have yet to win a game, looking to push their series against Golden State to a Game 7. The boys in Memphis are hyped šŸ‹ļøā€ā™‚ļø

  • With no Ja Morant, Tyus Jones has been filling in for him nicely. In games where he has played at least 24 min, he's averaging 20 PPG on .53 FG% and .50 3PT%

  • The Grizzlies are a combined 20-5 in the postseason and regular season when Jones starts

Outside of the Game 5 blowout, Steph had been cooking this series, putting up Chef-like numbers šŸ‘‡

  • 28.25 PPG

  • 6.4 APG

  • 48.6 FG%

There has been an impressive amount of trash talk throughout this series, with Draymond Green leaning fully into his instigator role at the end of Wednesday night's game. Look for him and the rest of the Warriors to come out with a vengeance tonight.

  • Spread: Warriors -8.5

  • Moneyline: Warriors -370 (bet $370 to win $100), Grizzlies +295 (bet $100 to win $295)

  • O/U: 217

For My Parlay Gurus

After their heroic Game 5, I'm leaning on the Bucks to close out the series against the Celtics. There is no answer for Giannis, who is putting up 33.6 PPG, 12.6 RPG and 7.0 APG against a league-best defense. Meanwhile, I like the Warriors to be energized back at home. Take a look šŸ‘‡

  • Bucks -1.5 vs. Celtics: -110

  • Warriors -8.5 vs. Grizzlies: -110

Trivia Answer: LeBron James was maybe the first name that came to mind, but the other Heat player in question is actually Dwayne Wade, who put up 42, 36, 43, and 40 pts en route to his first championship against the Mavericks in the 2006 NBA finals
