Home Run Derby Preview

The MLB's Home Run Derby is like the NBA's Slam Dunk Contest, it's a competition the night before the All-Star Game that's become just as popular as the game itself. However, both events have struggled to get the biggest stars to participate consistently

  • Aaron Judge, who leads the MLB in HRs with 33, decided to pass this year. But, he did win the event back in 2017

Don't worry, there's still plenty of storylines to follow with this year's derby participants, including 42-year-old Albert Pujols joining the mix. Not to mention, the winner will take home a cool $1M and a ridiculous chain — check out this ice 💎

Get ready to be entertained by two-time defending champion Pete Alonso and seven of the game's most prolific sluggers. Take a look at how the lines are shaping up 👇

Three-Pete?

Pete Alonso is the rightful favorite, as he tries to secure his third straight Home Run Derby crown. It's hard to argue against the chalk pick, especially with Alonso's proven track record 😤

  • In 2019, Alonso beat Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by launching 23 bombs in the final round, including a 458-ft moonshot with under two minutes left 💣

  • There was no event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Alonso came back in 2021 to defend his title, beating Trey Mancini in the finals and hitting 74 HRs overall

Of all the players competing in this event, Alonso has the second-highest max exit velocity at 116.5. However, he will be facing Ronald Acuña Jr. in the first round. It's a tough draw, but Alonso was built for this competition 🐻‍❄️

  • Pete Alonso: -200

  • Ronald Acuña Jr.: +165

For My Parlay Gurus

The only player I see competing with Pete Alonso is Kyle Schwarber, who is the top seed in this event. Schwarber leads the National League in HRs with 29 this season, and he'll be facing Albert Pujols in the first round. I'm throwing together a fire parlay for you, which ends with Alonso hoisting his third straight trophy 👇

  • Pete Alonso, Juan Soto and Kyle Schwarber to each win in the First Round: +220

  • Kyle Schwarber vs. Pete Alonso Finalists: +360

  • Pete Alonso Home Run Derby Winner: +185
