Betting On Top-25 NCAAF Underdogs 🤔

Only three Top-10 teams covered spread last weekend, and with a loaded slate of Top-25 matchups this weekend, let's take a look at some potential underdogs. No parlay tonight by the way 🏈

Undefeated Teams

Heading into Week 5 of the semi-young college football season, I was curious how many Top-25 teams were still undefeated. As expected, the Top-11 have a combined zero losses, but teams No. 12 and 13 (Utah and Oregon) have dropped a game. Ole Miss and Washington slide into No. 14 and 15 with a perfect record, but then eight of the remaining ten ranked teams are 3-1 👇

Besides Texas A&M (lost to Appalachian State) and Kansas State (lost to Tulane), all of these teams have basically beaten each other...

  • No. 8 Tennessee beat No. 24 Pittsburgh

  • No 13. Oregon beat No. 19 BYU

  • No. 19 BYU beat No. 16 Baylor

  • No. 17 Texas A&M beat No. 20 Arkansas

  • No. 5 Clemson beat No. 22 Wake Forest

  • No. 25 Kansas State beat No. 18 Oklahoma

  • No. 1 Georgia beat No. 13 Oregon

If this wasn't the case, I'd probably say that there's a few undefeated, unranked teams who I would have liked to see crack the Top-25 over some of these one loss teams 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • Kansas is 4-0, hasn't been ranked since 2007, and has wins over West Virginia, Houston and Duke

  • Syracuse is 4-0 and deserved their moment before they go play No. 10 N.C. State, No. 5. Clemson, Notre Dame, No. 24 Pitt, No. 23 Florida State and No. 22 Wake Forest in a row...sheesh

  • UCLA is 4-0, we'll see if their legit with upcoming games against No. 15 Washington, No. 12 Utah and No. 13 Oregon

Of all these under the radar 4-0 teams, watch out for No. 21 Minnesota. The Big Ten West is a joke and they don't play Michigan or Ohio State this season. Also I stole this idea from Joel Klatt 🧠

So Now What

This past week was an interesting slate of games and results for the Top-10...only three teams covered spread 😬

  • Georgia beat Kent State by 17, spread was 44.5

  • Alabama smacked Vandy by 52, spread was 38.5...that's one

  • Ohio State smacked Wisco by 31, spread was 19...that's two

  • Michigan beat Maryland by 7, spread was 17.5

  • Clemson beat Wake Forest in OT by 6, spread was 7

  • Oklahoma lost to Kansas State at home, spread was OU -13.5

  • USC beat Oregon State by 3, spread was 5.5

  • Kentucky beat Northern Illinois by 8, spread was 26.5

  • Arkansas lost to Texas A&M by 2, spread was actually Aggies -1.5...that's three

The point of all of this? There's one loss teams ranked in the Top-25 because outside of Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State, there's a very small gap between No. 4 and No. 25. As you can see above, even non-ranked teams are giving the Top-10 a hard time. This coming weekend has a great slate of games to test out the underdog theory 😴

A four-team 6 point teaser with all the road/underdog teams from the games above looks like this and pays out +280. I'm leaving out Alabama because they are big road favorites which is tough to bet on or against 😏

Should be a fun weekend of football, these lines will probably change so we'll check back in later in the week. Don't forget about No. 15 Washington @ UCLA this Friday night at 10:30PM EST 🍿 (No parlay today)
