No Problems In Houston

Mattress Mack is certainly looking at a decent payday ($35.6M) if the Astros win the World Series — anyone else hoping to hit big on an Astros’ future?

Despite four straight playoff appearances, featuring three division titles, the Astros entered this season as a semi-long shot to capture a World Series title. Now, with just two teams remaining, Houston finds themselves as the favorite

  • Astros: -140 (Opening Odds In April: +2200)

  • Braves: +117 (Opening Odds In April: +1000)

Houston absolutely dismantled the Red Sox in the last three games of the ALCS, outscoring them 23-3 over that span. So, it’s no surprise to see expectations for the AL champs are high against a team few expected to see representing the NL

Can Cinderella Pull It Off?

The Braves don’t exactly qualify as a traditional underdog — they entered the season a bonafide contender at +1000 odds to win the Fall Classic. But, that was before a lackluster start to the season, and the loss of superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. to a torn ACL

Despite being all but written off ahead of the playoffs, the Braves took down both the Brewers and the heavily-favored Dodgers en route to their first World Series appearance since 1999. Now, they’re just four wins away from one of the most unexpected titles in recent memory

Trivia question: who started Game 1 for the Braves the last time they were in the World Series? (answer below)

What About MVP Honors?

With Houston emerging as the favorite in this series, it’s no surprise to see a quartet of Astros sitting atop the MVP board

  • Jose Altuve: +1000

  • Michael Brantley: +1000

  • Alex Bregman: +1000

  • Yordan Alvarez: +1000

  • Freddie Freeman: +1100

  • Carlos Correa: +1200

  • Max Fried: +1400

  • Kyle Tucker: +1400

  • Austin Riley: +1600

  • Eddie Rosario: +1800

Who are the best bets to emerge from the crowded pack of contenders? That depends on which team you like to win it all. If you’re buying the Astros hype, look no further than Yordan Alvarez

  • Has a ridiculous .441/.535/.794 slash line this postseason, along with seven extra-base hits

  • Went 9-for-13 over the last three games of the ALCS with five runs and five RBIs, actually outhitting the Red Sox himself, seven to five, over the last two games

Or, maybe you believe the Braves are truly this year’s team of destiny? In that case, nobody fits that storybook ending better than Freddie Freeman

  • The five-time All-Star and 2020 NL MVP is making his first World Series appearance

  • After 10 seasons in Atlanta, Freeman is set to become a free agent this offseason. Given the Braves’ long-term commitments elsewhere, it’s possible the two sides go their separate ways

  • In the meantime, it’s been business as usual for star first baseman, who’s reaching base at a .455 clip this postseason to go along with three HRs
