Astros Are Only 1.5 Games Back Of AL's Best Record

The second half of the MLB season is underway, which means it’s time to get serious. The Red Sox are in the hunt for an AL Wild Card spot, while the Astros are gunning for the AL’s best record. Both teams are in action tonight, let's get it going ⚾️ (4 min read)

Congrats to the Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2022 on their induction yesterday, headlined by Big Papi. Tonight's parlay is Red Sox +1.5 vs. Guardians and Astros -1.5 vs. Athletics

Post All-Star Break

Now that the second half of the season has begun, each MLB game becomes a little more important. Although it's only July, if you haven't placed one bet on a 2022 World Series winner, you're behind...just ask Mattress Mack

  • Jim McIngvale, a.k.a "Mattress Mack", is known for making massive bets on the Astros, and he's already thrown down $10M on the club to win the title this year 😳

2022 World Series Winner Odds (subject to change)

  • New York Yankees: +300 (bet $100, win $300)

  • Los Angeles Dodgers: +350

  • Houston Astros: +450

  • New York Mets: +800

  • Atlanta Braves: +1000

I like Mattress Mack's confidence in the Astros, who hold the third-best record in the MLB, but $10M is insane. Nevertheless, it's time to lock in as the playoffs are approaching. We have two great games on tap tonight, with the Red Sox hosting the Guardians and the Astros taking on the A's. Let's dive in ⚾️

Time To Bounce Back

It's been a historically tough week for the Red Sox, coming off a series sweep at the hands of the Blue Jays. This embarrassing 3-game beating at Fenway Park began with a familiar face throwing out the first pitch on Friday, July 22nd 👋

  • "Euphoria" star Sydney Sweeney delivered the first pitch to what turned out to be a memorable 28-5 loss by the Red Sox, the most runs given up in franchise history

  • Curse or not, Sydney had no problem trolling Boston after their loss with her IG caption 🙃

You need a short memory in baseball though, and thankfully the Red Sox will be hosting the Cleveland Guardians tonight, a team they swept back in June

  • Boston will have Nick Pivetta on the mound, who boasts a 4.50 ERA. He also leads the Red Sox in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts

  • As for the Red Sox's offense, they rank in the top-5 in hits and batting average

Despite Boston's struggles to start the second half, I think they'll settle in tonight against the Guardians, who are under .500 on the road this season. We also know that Sydney will not be throwing out the first pitch in this series, or maybe ever again 🤦‍♂️Guardians vs. Red Sox Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Guardians -1.5

  • Moneyline: Guardians -104 (bet $104, win $100), Red Sox -112 (bet $112, win $100)

  • O/U: 9.5 Total Runs

Smooth Sailing In Houston

Unlike the Red Sox, the Astros just can't stop winning. They've rattled off five straight since the All-Star break, including a 2-game series sweep of the Yankees

  • Houston is now 1.5 games behind New York for the best record in the American League, the closest any team has been to the Yankees since May 10th 👀

As for their opponent, the Oakland Athletics, the only headline that's been circling that club involves Kyler Murray. Yes, the Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who just signed a 5-year, $230.5M extension this past week

  • Murray was drafted ninth overall by the A's in 2018 as an outfielder, but he chose to play football instead. It's a decision that looks a little sweeter now, or at least his bank account agrees 💰

I'm sure Oakland wishes they had Kyler, as they've been looking up at the Astros in the standings for the entire year

  • Houston's success stems from their pitching staff, led by 2x AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander

  • Their combined 2.96 ERA ranks second in the MLB, and they're holding opponents to the lowest batting average in the league at .211

There are few teams that have been able to compete with the Astros this season, and I don't believe the A's will be able to do so, especially with that low payroll 😅

Astros vs. Athletics Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Astros -1.5

  • Moneyline: Astros -225, Athletics +188

  • O/U: 8 Total Runs

Trivia Question: During Kyler Murray's last season playing baseball at Oklahoma in 2018, how many home runs did he hit? (answer below)

For My Parlay Gurus

Even though the Red Sox have struggled as of late, don't panic. They're still .500 and right in the hunt for an AL Wild Card spot, which is why I'm taking them to cover the spread tonight against the Guardians. I'm pairing that with the Astros against a weak A's squad in Oakland. Check it out 👇

  • Red Sox +1.5 vs. Guardians: -196

  • Astros -1.5 vs. Athletics: -122

$100 on this bet would win you $175 — if we hit, make sure you email [email protected] for a chance to win up to $100*. Many will enter, only some will win 😉
