Another Primetime Broncos Game 😏

The early returns on the Russell Wilson trade have not been promising for Denver, as the offense has looked stagnant and the decision-making has been questionable at best. Can they turn it around vs. Justin Herbert and the Chargers? 🍿 (3 min read)

Primetime Broncos

The NFL schedule makers have been the subject of widespread ridicule so far this season, due to their poor selections for numerous primetime games. The last two editions of Thursday Night Football have been difficult to watch...Jeff Bezos can't be too pleased with the underwhelming slate of matchups for which he shelled out $1B per year 😅

No team has appeared in more primetime games than the Denver Broncos (this is the 4th), and it's safe to say that the league is regretting that decision. Russell Wilson has looked shockingly bad through his first five games with his new squad, commanding an offense that's averaging only 15 PPG 🥶

  • Denver came into the season with a new coach and QB, and the growing pains have been painfully obvious thus far

  • Nathaniel Hackett has made numerous puzzling decisions, namely the infamous call to attempt a 64-yard field goal for the win vs. Seattle 🤔

The Broncos will look to get back on track in this Monday night matchup vs. their AFC West rival in the LA Chargers. Los Angeles entered this season with a tremendous amount of hype, but has already been decimated with injuries. Still, Denver enters this matchup looking like the inferior squad — can Russ finally cook on prime time?

Different Directions

With Justin Herbert in place as the franchise QB, the Chargers have to feel extremely positive about their future. The 24-year-old has already broken a litany of records in his young career, and has the potential to become an all-time great. Herbert has the type of highlight reel skills that can't be taught, and produces jaw-dropping plays on a weekly basis 🎥

In Herbert's first two years, the Chargers have failed to parlay his excellent play into team success, as he's still looking for his first postseason appearance. LA ended last season with a heart-breaking overtime loss vs. the Raiders, in a game whose winner would claim the final AFC playoff berth. However, the greatest asset an NFL team can have is a star QB on an affordable rookie contract, and the Chargers broke the bank stocking up on talent this offseason 👇

  • They gave J.C. Jackson $82M to be their shutdown cornerback, and acquired star linebacker Khalil Mack via trade

  • Despite boasting one of the most talented rosters in football, the Chargers have looked far from elite this season

  • They skated by with a two-point win over Cleveland last week, and will look to make a statement with a resounding primetime win

The Broncos also came into this season with a lot of hype — hence the egregious amount of nationally televised games — but it's hard to find the same cause for optimism in them eventually living up to it. Russell Wilson has looked like a star in name only this year, as the 33-year-old lacks the explosiveness that once enabled his signature scrambling plays 💨

  • Wilson is trying to transition into a pure pocket passer, but the results have been disappointing — he has only four TD passes in five games

  • It makes it especially tough that his former backup in Seattle is now making plays like this 😂

The Chargers are favored at home, and rightfully so. I like them to win tonight, which would put them right there with the Chiefs in the AFC West at 4-2 💪

Trivia question: Justin Herbert broke virtually every rookie passing record, including most touchdowns (31). Who held the record before him?

For My Parlay Gurus

The line on this one shows that Vegas isn't looking at Denver favorably following their rough start to the season, and I can't say I feel differently. The Chargers seem to be the clearly superior team, and Herbert the better QB. I like Los Angeles to win this game fairly comfortably, and perhaps finally end Denver's painful primetime run (in which case perhaps we all win) 😂

  • Chargers -4.5 vs. Broncos: -110

  • Justin Herbert to throw OVER 1.5 TDs: -148
